Rapper Speed Darlington has filed a ₦3 billion defamation lawsuit against the Federal Government of Nigeria, specifically targeting the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), after the agency declared him wanted over a live video he made which went viral

He Filed on July 9, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja and claims the June 27th “Wanted” notice by NAPTIP caused Severe damage to his reputation,
threats to his personal safety, Emotional distress and loss of income.
He is seeking ₦3 billion in damages, a perpetual injunction to prevent NAPTIP from acting on or enforcing the publication
NAPTIP accused him of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking, based on statements made during a controversial Instagram livestream
The agency placed him on an international watch list and alerted Interpol
Speed Darlington denies all allegations, calling the notice a publicity stunt and accusing NAPTIP of chasing social media clout
He mocked the summons, demanding a ₦2.5 million appearance fee, saying any meeting would count as a “performance”

ReplyDeleteHe definitely has grounds for suing them. Because person talk something, no matter how wrong it is, there’s still freedom of speech, you now say he’s wanted because he didn’t show up to your invitation. The burden of proof is not on him, it is on the govt so he doesn’t have to show up to help your investigation. The govt should’ve investigated first and put a warrant out for his arrest if he’s guilty.
