Teejay's CORNER

Interesting read!

An Anambra woman on an interview said she hails from Imo state. As the interview progresses, she disclosed again she's from Anambra state. This got the interviewer confused. He asked the woman but you said Imo state initially? The woman responded, that her husband's state of origin is Imo state hence she's from Imo state.

For some minutes, I paused and tried to understand if marriage automatically changes a woman's state of origin to that of her husband. I will need a better understanding to this. If it's ideal and logical for a woman to transfer origin status to that of her husband.

Long before the white man came with his religion to Africa, marriage ceremony in Igbo land has a custom. A man marrying a woman doesn't equate she was sold to him. This is the sole reason the lady's father will say to his son in-law ''Any day you're tired of the marriage and no longer wishes to stay married, please do return her to us in good health the way we've presented her to you today.'' In other words, it's called 'Ije di' in Igbo language and not selling of a daughter.

At that time, married women upon death, are taken back to their father's compound and buried there. In confirmation that she wasn't sold into marriage. Even in marriage, the woman still belongs to her family and will return to her root in death.

With the advent of Christianity and shortly after, that practice came to an end. Though a married woman logically still belongs to her family, but are now being buried in their husband's compound. But first, the corpse must get to her father's compound from the morgue before being taken to the husband's home.

Those days under traditional practice, the sanctity of human lives and marriages were held sacred and couples lived so well and long. Infidelity wasn't a lifestyle, neither was it a choice. People were so mindful of our customs, traditions and value system until Christianity brought to us freedom and liberty on 'anyhowness' hiding under the covering of Grace to perpetrate evil and wickedness.

Today, things that were once alien to us have found its root among us. Wife stabbing their husband to death and husband sniffing life out of their wife. Divorces every damn time. Families trading their daughters for material gains and benefits not minding the source and livelihood of the man in question. No due diligence anymore. Once he or she is wealthy, they're good to go.

The love for mundane things.....

  1. May you not continue to waste your youth chasing shadows. No one is forced to subscribe to this faith.
No guidance in the Bible recommends or dictates which compound you choose to bury your dead. You can imagine the wisdom of God himself coming as a middle easterner in a story confirmed by the law and prophets who lives centuries apart, to satisfy his justice that would have consumed you as "White man's" religion. Why do you think the white man dumped his own gods and idols to worship a Jewish carpenter who made claims no one has been able to disprove over 2 thousand years? That's the power of the gospel.

If you want to go on the prodigal son's excursion, there is the spirit of Jesus to bring you to your senses amd back home- I speak from experience but you don't need to suffer tending pigs and craving their diet.

A person schooled in numbers has presented none regarding his claims of longevity. Apparently, there are more people dying of corpse compound confusion (CCC) now than in the old days when small pox, measles, rubella, famine, diphtheria, snake bites, sickle cell, cholera, all manner of microbial diseases, unhygienic water and food decades and centuries ago, when these conditions took them out before they had the chance to reproduce. No wonder the life expectancy rate keeps going up.

You have wasted about 2 decades on bigotry and learned helplessness and now the only thing that endures eternally, you have chosen to despise yet again.

Wherever is the humility for you to see you are not good at making choices and seek God's wisdom? Thank God that of God are those who believe in Jesus in Christ. We simply have no power to keep ourselves in him with our flesh still a factor.

Surround yourself with people who know God and know better, submit yourself to God's way and wisdom which is in Christ and avoid confusing yourself the more with puerile beer-parlor concoctions that will just take more time from you.

May God restore your wasted years.

    2. Don't be a coward about your claims. Counter my response with evidence.
The prodigal son had a heavenly father and yet, wasted his time on things that don't pay. This is the point I am making and which you have also proven with speaking from all compass points of your mouth while making no factual claims.

You have made the laughable claim that "white man's religion" is responsible for early death and I have listed just a few easily verifiable factors as to what the numbers say and how your claim is childish and untrue drunkard fodder. That anyone who enjoyed the privileges of being immunised, treated with antibiotics or taking treated/ boiled water and availed of the privilege to escape conflict while encouraging same can claim that burial real estate led to longer lives than knowledge largely brought by this "white man's religion" is unfortunate ignorance that needs to called out. In a world where some may even be more ignorant and arrogant than you, these things need to be stated clearly. If you can prove that burial arrangements killed more than the plague, you may be in line for a sumptuous researcher's award.

Don't allow people to keep deceiving you and wasting your time. The little things they pass on to you while they protect their names and build their own lives while using you as an instrument of confusion is an underpayment especially when you are also deceiving yourself.

You can go today to your hometown to live this Tarzan life and see real death and disease if you want. Maybe then, you will realise why the people who buried as you like threw all they worshipped away for the peace and pardon they received for free.

If you have a faith that is superior to the "white man's religion" you disparage for internet crumbs, share it and leave this pretense of condemning the faith then running back to it because you cannot stand the heat of scrutiny.

    3. ''Long before the white man came with his religion to Africa, marriage ceremony in Igbo land has a custom.''

''With the advent of Christianity and shortly after, that practice came to an end. ''(Practice of burying married women in their father's home)

''Those days under traditional practice, the sanctity of human lives and marriages were held sacred and couples lived so well and long. Infidelity wasn't a lifestyle, neither was it a choice. People were so mindful of our customs, traditions and value system until Christianity brought to us freedom and liberty on 'anyhowness' hiding under the covering of Grace to perpetrate evil and wickedness.''

I dropped this three quotes so you can point where I said Christianity brought early death to Africans. Pls do show me. I did state the fact that long before Christianity came, we as Africans has our way of life, customs and value system. Never in my piece did I disparage Christianity or attribute it to be the cause of early death. All I said was, Christianity now made people to hide under grace while committing sins and atrocities cos they believe they'll always go for confession or pray to God for forgiveness.

In the olden days, people were afraid to indulge in sacrilegious acts because they knew it comes with instant punishment, banishment or even execution. So the rate of infidelity, crimes and all other atrocities were minimal. This was the point I was trying to make and not disparaging Christianity. If you can be honest here, compare and contrast people's relations then and now and tell what the difference is.

In my last paragraph this is what I stated. ''Today, things that were once alien to us have found its root among us. A spouse stabbing the partner wasn't our way of life. Neither was heavy list bride price. So also was infidelity. These were the points I was trying to make not that Christianity cause it. Rather is made people engaging in unholy act believing in Grace. Even the Bible asked, should we continue in sin so that the grace of God will abound?

Finally, you accused me of bigotry for two decades. How long have I been here? Seven years which isn't up to a decade. Two decades is 20years. So why the lies? Or do you know me outside here? How long have you known me? Pls answer.

Pls I will appreciate you drop a copied of my bigotry comments here. I will like to read and apologize. For the record, I'm a religious person and a great lover of God. I can't remember anytime denouncing Christianity. So get your facts right.

  2. I don’t know. Maybe you are right that life was utopian before the colonizers appeared. I am not a historian but I know wars have always existed and tribal wars happened. Cultural norms and values shift overtime and this happens in every culture, it’s called evolution, whether we personally like it or not it will happen. Whether it takes 10 years or 1000 it will happen. It is happening right before all our eyes right now.

Fearing marriage or divorce is not worth it. Life is lived blindly, nobody gets to see the future. Fearlessness and courage is what is needed to be successful. Nobody fearful of life has ever found success and that is in any age of history. Marry if you desire to even if the divorce rate is 90%, it may be your marriage that becomes the inspiration to others. Christ preached fearlessly against great opposition and threat to life and an entire religion was created off his works. And don’t forget that Christ was a Black man just like you. His legacy remains and more than a billion ppl know his name, people from all corners of the world. His courage and fearlessness is what created that legacy. So live your life without fear and you too will create a lasting legacy.
