I don't have a valid driving licence after the last one I had expired. Since it was night time, I didn't reason it. So I set out to meet them.
When I met them, I noticed he had gotten himself heavily drunk and when I asked him if he still drink this heavily? he said I shouldn't mind his wife for calling me that he can actually drive home. The wife interrupted, saying I shouldn't mind him. She handed the car key to me. I drove them home and promised to come back the next morning to check on him.
Like promised, I was with them the next day. I asked madam why hasn't she known how to drive? She said her husband refused her from doing so. I told her it was so wrong, even if he won't buy you one, you can sometimes use his just like what happened last night. I asked my guy why his wife can't drive in a modern age like this? He promised he'll give it a consideration. He thanked me for coming through the night before and assured me he won't get himself that drunk again.
Before leaving them, I didn't miss the opportunity in highlighting the implications and dangers of alcoholic consumption to him.
I told him a good percentage of kidney and liver failures people suffer today sterns from excessive alcoholic intake. There has never been any nutritional value in excessive alcoholic intake I know of, rather it intoxicates one and weaken the immune system.
I rarely take alcohol and when I do, it's just a bottle and most times it's once in months. This year I haven't taken beer up to five bottles. I know not just beer, also drinks with caffeine and chemical processed canned food can also contribute to kidney problems. Though I'll never condemn anyone who consume alcohol but when it gets excessive, it becomes worrisome to the system which can lead to hepatitis, a liver inflammation caused by excessive and long-term alcohol consumption thereby leading to liver cell damage.
I sincerely hope my guy will keep to his words this time by either quitting or reducing his intake for his own good and health.

I don't take alcohol but I'd like to know how it taste some day
ReplyDeleteThen drink and don’t swallow
DeleteA word a enough for the wise
ReplyDeleteWe all get to choose our poison I suppose. For some people it is food and they'll stuff their faces with it. For some its alcohol and they'll drink themselves into a sewer pipe.
ReplyDeleteFor everything, there has to be some moderation. I love beer, I really do. However, I only pick special occasions to get wasted just for the thrill of it. Nothing refreshes like working off a hangover every now and then. But those come rarely these days. Age calls for slowing down I guess.
Absolutely nothing beats the thrill of an exceedingly chilled bottle of beer after a hard days work. You gather thoughts and plan for tomorrow. Getting drunk just isn't the flex some think it to be. Not that I have any issue with anyone who fancies getting absolutely plastered as a way of life. Why condemn the drunkard and say nothing about the glutton? Moderation is everything. Nothing beats it.

One of the important points I picked in this piece is the importance of knowing how to drive as a woman.I'm beginning to see driving is a survival skill, what if this man has emergency at night or something happens when he travels without the car and the wife needs to take someone to the hospital?will he wait for you to come over to drive him or his family to the hospital? What of other instances? Please, follow him up and make sure he enrolls the wife in a driving school,he will be happy he did.
ReplyDeleteI don’t know how people drink so many bottles of beer. I take one bottle of drink and my tummy is already heavy, no space to even fit more.
ReplyDeleteGood advice you gave him teejay

I have friends in those days that drinks between one to two crates of beer, I don't even care to know the brands why I drink my own maltina.
ReplyDeleteWhat I usually do was just to have a sip of whatever they where drinking to know how it taste and I react to it immediately.
In the Uk, the way people drink is unbelievable, especially on a Friday /saturday night. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, they even have a temporary ambulance area in Piccadilly circus so they can look after people falling drunk from consuming too much alcohol at office Christmas parties. na wa.
ReplyDeleteUncontrollable drinking can put people in serious trouble. I heard of the story of a man who didn't come home one day after his usual late night drink 🍺
ReplyDeleteWise and responsible wife. Her irresponsible husband would have killed them all if he drove them home that night.
