ReplyDeleteN150 million worth of gold casket?! I hope he tightens the security around his mother's grave. In this economy?! This isn't honor. This is pure waste of money.

Delete@Lora, it's Gold plated and not real Gold! Even if he sells all his gullible followers, his church buildings and all his assets, he won't still be able to afford a solid Gold casket.

Hmm.... what showmanship is this - preached from the pulpit of vanity? The quiet tragedy beneath the whispers has very little to do with gold, prices, or disbelief. A 104-year life has ended, yet our collective attention fixates on the container, not the life and times of the deceased. That alone should unsettle us, as humans.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, burying a mother with such honour is deeply human. In many cultures, it’s a final language of gratitude. Nobody should police the bearer's grief or dictate how love should be expressed at death. If wealth exists, it will show up somewhere. Pretending otherwise is in its own dishonest.
But here’s the discomfort we shouldn’t dodge: when religious leadership intersects with such spectacle, its symbolism is no longer neutral or constructively right. In a country bruised by poverty, faith is not just a revered spiritual currency that both the hopeful and the hopeless hold on to; it is their emotional capital.
These lavish displays tied to religious figures inevitably carry meaning beyond family devotion. They become statements, whether intended or not. And statements, especially from celebrated, revered figures, invite resentful scrutiny.
It is pedestrian to argue whether “It is gold or gold-plated.” The troubling question is what such excess communicates in a moral ecosystem where followers often struggle to meet ordinary basic needs, yet are taught sacrifice as virtue. When death becomes an extravagant spectacle of vainity, faith risks being reduced to optics. And validates public criticism of its business model.
Still, reducing this moment to mockery misses the point too. It’s easy to sneer. It’s harder to think. This isn’t about envy or holiness. It’s about proportion, responsibility, and the subtle power leaders wield even in mourning.
A woman lived for 104 years. That alone is extraordinary. If there’s any lesson worth amplifying, it’s that legacy is never buried with us. It’s measured by what our choices teach the living - especially when we know the world is watching. This, at best, taught us nothing about modesty.
This is out of the ordinary.
DeleteTithe and offering money dey now. And the stupid and gullible followers never tire to contribute. Carry on jare god of men.
ReplyDeleteSofri dey lie o. How can she be 104 yrs old. How old are you?
