While speaking with Chude, Bimbos explained the incident, revealing that they got harassed by local hoodlums. She disclosed that the street boys at the location they were filming at disrupted their work because the movie spoke about their realities.
“We were shooting in Ebute Metta, and boys would constantly disrupt the set because the film reflected their everyday reality. It’s my area. I thought they would respect me, but we still had to bring in security so we could work. Funke insisted I join her. She suggested we do a massage like we usually do after work,” she stated.
Thomas also revealed that the hotel they spent the night at was attacked just when they were almost done with the entire shoot.
“We suddenly heard loud banging and people shouting ‘Ole! Ole!’. We were terrified. Funke is very prayerful, so we all started praying. I told them she (Funke Akindele) was the face everyone knew. We tried hiding her under the bed, but it didn’t work, so we moved her into the bathroom. The masseuse was praying in tongues, Funke was praying in tongues, and I was just pleading with God for mercy. When they came back, it was obvious they were searching for Funke. They were calling her name,”
Thomas disclosed that Funke eventually came out of hiding and was dragged out by armed men. She explained that although they eventually got help, the incident made her feel helpless
“I thought they would just collect valuables and leave, but instead they asked her to dress up and dragged her downstairs to her car. I heard Funke singing Emi Omo Ghetto. I didn’t understand what was happening. They ordered her to sing and dance, and she did. It was total chaos. Someone was shot, a pastor was rushed to the hospital, and about 20 to 30 of us were stranded at the reception confused, scared, and praying. I could have been killed,” she said..
Panic broke out, and the women began praying as the intruders attempted to gain access.
Realising Funke was the main target, the actress tried to hide her inside the room under the bed before the attackers eventually broke in.
Before they broke in, we had agreed to hide her under my bed, because if they don't see her, maybe we will be safe, theythey might not know us like that."
When they broke in, the men repeatedly called Funke’s name and I refused to give her up, even when they threatened to kill me''.
But Funke just came out under the bed underneath me and they dragged her downstairs to her car, forced her to sing and dance while armed."
She added that while only a few men entered the hotel, many others were stationed outside, leaving everyone helpless.
Security forces were eventually alerted, gunshots were fired, and the attackers fled the scene."
“We truly thank God,” she said,
Bimbo said the incident left a deep emotional impact on everyone involved and described it as a close brush with death.

ReplyDeleteThank God for their lives
ReplyDeleteThis experience is scary but it's avoidable.
ReplyDeleteBased on my own experience from being born and growing up at Agege, areas like orile, isale oja, okekoto, ile pako etc are where you'll find different kind of thugs.
Now, let me correct Bimbo assumption, those ghetto guys care less about whatever you are depicting in your film as long as you don't mention their names.
Also, Funke should have wetted the ground by linforming and liasing with leaders of the boys from the area before filming, na dem go clear road for you and even do security till the end of the production, and everything will go hitch free ( due diligence). BTW, I am not making case for dem bad boys.
