The Pharaohs of Egypt struck early at the 4th minute when Omar Marmoush opened the scoring with a low shot to make it 1-0, Ramy Rabia then headed the ball in the net at the 32nd minute to make it 2-0.
Egyptian Ahmed Fatouh's own goal gave Côte d'Ivoire hope, making it 2-1 at the 40th minute just before halftime.
The Egyptians quickly responded in the second half at the 52nd minute when Mohamed Salah scored to restore their lead.
The Ivorians through Guéla Doué replied with a clever finish at the 73rd minute to make it 3-2, but Egypt held firm and knocked out the defending champions to cement their place in the semi finals where they will face Senegal.
