Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, have suffered the heartbreaking loss of one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed away at 21 months old after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. 


The news was confirmed in an official statement issued by Adichie’s communications team, signed by Omawumi Ogbe, which described the family as devastated and appealed for privacy as they mourn in seclusion.

    Why can't both twins survive?
    It's rare, very rare to see both twin borns live, grow up and grow old.
    Even the ones that have grown to adulthood some still suddenly lose one twin.

    Why is that? Is there a story behind this?
    Yes, I'm a twinnie and I have other twins in my family as well.
