The Defence headquarters disclosed on Monday that the Special Investigative Panel it set up to investigate 16 officers of the armed forces indicted for acts of indiscipline, acts contrary to service regulations, and other breaches, has concluded its investigations, adding that the officers will face a military Court Martial. The army admitted that there was an attempt to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.


Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has assured Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, of victory in the 2027 governorship election, declaring that the party would fully back him for a second term. Ganduje, who gave the assurance in Kano while welcoming Governor Yusuf back to the APC, described the governor’s return as historic and beneficial to both the party and the state.

The Dangote refinery has increased the gantry price of petrol from N699 per litre to N799 per litre. As a result, the refinery said MRS filling stations will now sell petrol at N839 per litre. This was contained in a statement by the management on Monday.

The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has announced that Vice President Kashim Shettima will visit the state on Tuesday for the formal reception of Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the ruling party. Governor Mutfwang had, on December 29, 2025, tendered his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party in a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area.

Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has resigned his appointment as Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development. Kwankwaso announced his resignation as a member of the State Executive Council in a statement made available posted on his official Facebook account on Monday.

 Edo State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected kidnappers and rescued six victims in massive operations across the state. The spokesperson for the command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed this in a statement on Monday. She noted that the arrests were made during several bush-combing operations carried out in the state over the past week.

 Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke Joint Task Force have neutralised two suspected bandits along the Naka/Makurdi road. Local sources said on Monday that the suspected bandits were reported to have stormed the highway before locals sent distress calls to the troops who responded swiftly and engaged the suspected bandits in a gun duel, leading to the death of two.

Napoleon Ukalikpe emerged as the party’s candidate for Ahoada East Constituency II, while Mrs Bulabari Loolo clinched the ticket for Khana Constituency II.

 Weeks after a reported peace agreement, suspected bandits have launched a deadly attack on Chibauna community in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing two persons and abducting more than 50 women. The attackers, who struck the community late Sunday, also rustled a large number of livestock, including cattle and sheep, during the raid.

    I think they should be a law, once you decamp you lose any political office held previously. Let your new party vote you afresh.
