The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Lagos at the KAP Hub.
It happened after an invitation from the Benin Republic's presidency, led by President Patrice Talon. The partner on the Benin side is Société de Productions Audiovisuelles (SOPA), a government-owned production company.
Kunle Afolayan led the KAP Group, which includes his production company, film academy, and the KAP Film Village and Resort in Oyo State.
This new partnership will focus on three main things:
- Making films and series that tell real African stories and reach audiences around the world.
- Training young people in filmmaking and other creative skills.
- Building and running a modern film city in Ouidah, Benin, to support better production.
A big part of the plan is to co-produce a large television series based on Orisha (Yoruba spiritual traditions) and Vodun (from Benin, with shared roots in Yoruba culture). This will show authentic stories from both countries and aim for global platforms. The deal is seen as a step forward for Nollywood and Benin's creative sector.
It builds on shared history and culture between Nigeria and Benin to create stronger films and give more opportunities to upcoming talents.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations to him 🥳🥂
ReplyDeleteNice one. Congrats to him.
ReplyDeleteKunle has always had an eye for the next big thing and has paid his dues. No mumu movies till date even at cost of him losing fame or going hungry. No skits, no low budget all hype money grabs, classy advertising... He's the one to look at about entrenching systemic change that amounts to box office success.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to him. May God's will be done.
Please avoid conduct like what happened with the daughter when drunk. Awilo was a mega star on the continent till he stained his own white with loose behaviour.
Congratulations to him.
