''After cooking, I waited for Amadi to come back. It was almost evening so I decided to go back to Da Mgbechi’s house. This time, I was prepared to beg him to come back. When I got there, I sneaked in again from the back of the house but when I peeked in through the window, my heart stopped. It was a full house including Amadi’s mum and sister.
They were planning how they were going to bring the girl the next day with her people for introduction. Amadi was just nodding. I was confused. Same man that said he love his wife. I was confused but For some reason, I didn’t feel anything .
I listened for a while, got the information that I needed and left. I stopped at the market, bought few things and went home.Late at night, Amadi finally came back. I pretended to be fast asleep to avoid any conversation.
He stayed awake the whole night. Then at first cock crow, he got up and left. Immediately he left, I got out of bed and went to the kitchen. I started cooking. I made, abacha, ugba and small bitter leaf soup. When I was done, I woke my children, fed them took them to my neighbor’s house. Then I came back, had my bath, took great care in dressing up and packed all the food I made.
The sun was really scotching when I set out to Amadi’s parents house. Everyone was in high spirits but when I walked in with my coolers, there was silence.
I greeted them cheerfully but they didn’t respond. Then I saw the girl. I couldn’t even control my laughter. Looking at her, I just visualized the number of slaps she will be collecting from me per day if the devil pushes her to enter my house as a co wife. I smiled. Then I hugged her. She was practically shaking.
Her parents were just staring. I walked over to them, hugged them as well and introduced myself as Amadi’s wife. Then I looked her mother straight in the eyes and told her that she doesn’t love her daughter at all. I made sure she was the only one that heard it. I didn’t bother talking to Amadi or his mother. I went to a corner and sat down.
Then I opened my cooler, dished a healthy portion of abacha, with Ugba and started eating. They were all staring at me. The silence was loud. I didn’t utter a word. After downloading the abacha, I dished fufu and bitter leaf and started eating. I didn’t offer them any. After a while, the bride, her parents and their people started talking among themselves. Then they all got up and left. No one attempted to stop them.
I was just eating and watching. Then Umunna got up and left, followed by Da Mgbechi. Everyone else also left. It was just Amadi, his mother and sister. They were glaring at me. I finished eating, packed everything back into my cooler and left. Mission accomplished''
