NDLEA Officer Killed In Violent Drug Raid In Bonny Island And Six Suspects Arrested

On Friday, February 6, 2026, officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) carried out a raid on a known drug spot called Ama Hausa in Bonny Island, Rivers State. The team arrested six people and seized a large amount of illegal drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol.

The raid turned deadly when the suspects, led by gang leader Genesis George Benson, brought in armed men to fight back against the officers. During the clash, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid suffered serious head injuries. 

He was quickly taken to Bonny Island General Hospital for treatment but sadly succumbed to his his wounds. Despite the attack, the NDLEA team managed to hold on and arrest all six targets. The suspects include Genesis George Benson (the gang leader), ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.

NDLEA Chairman Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd) praised the officers for their bravery and strength in the face of danger. He sent his deepest condolences to the family of the late Sadiq Bako Mujahid and described the attack on his men as an attack on the whole country. Marwa made it clear that the agency will keep pushing hard against drug dealers and their hideouts.
