For many years daily medication has been the standard recommended by the World Health Organization and UNAIDS. While daily treatment works very well, it can sometimes be stressful to remember a pill every single day. A weekly option could ease that burden.
One major advantage of a once a week ARV is improved adherence. It is easier for many people to remember one dose a week instead of seven. Better adherence helps keep the virus suppressed and protects the immune system.
It also offers convenience and reduces treatment fatigue. Taking medication less often can improve quality of life and help people feel less defined by their diagnosis.
The once a week pill represents hope and progress. It shows that HIV care continues to evolve toward making life healthier and easier for people living with HIV. Though ,I still see some people saying arvs are dangerous and that people should not take it this believe has sent a lot to the great beyond cos they refused to take the drugs , I can boldly tell you that arv is a life saver, the benefits outweigh the side effects which is very minimal and well tolerated in lots of patients.

Taking medication consistently help keep the virus under control. And I think this newer options like weekly pills are still being developed.
ReplyDeleteOnce weekly will also help with availability if the price is right as you can purchase or pick up meds for longer and store/ ship in a smaller space. Still, one needs to be a "serious" patient no matter the frequency.
ReplyDeleteGood news. It's getting better.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that the Nigerian government receives some injectables ARV medications to be taken twice yearly. I was happy at first until I saw that it was PrEP.
This is encouraging and hopeful. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
ReplyDeleteOne day the cure will come out.
ReplyDeleteSince it is said That undetectable viral load means one cannot infect their sexual partner, that means the carrier isn't particularly safe from infecting other, right?
ReplyDeleteThey can still infect others through other means, which makes only their intimate partners safe, right?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
You’re very dull, that’s all I can say. Hian!
