Wike, reacting to Okinbaloye’s analysis on Politics Today, said he “would have shot” the journalist if he could “break the screen,” .
This remark immediately drew national and international criticism.
Amnesty described the statement as reckless, violent, and dangerous, and warned that such rhetoric from a senior government official threatens press freedom and normalizes hostility toward journalists.
Local CSOs echoed the alarm, stressing that Wike’s comment could embolden attacks on media workers and weaken democratic accountability.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists also condemned the remark and demanded a public apology.

ReplyDeleteI blame am?
ReplyDeleteNo, I blame the wicked government that appointed a former tout as a minister. His antecedents are nothing to write home about but this government is so selfish that it only cares about its re-election.
Tomorrow, MC Oluomo wil be given a top post in the country's government.
Let's keep watching since we can't protest without being shot at.
Wike is above the law. A so called learned colleague. Power is really intoxicating. 🙄🙄🙄
