On Sunday, April 19, 2026 Louisiana awoke to the shocking news that 31‑year‑old Shamar Elkins had unalifed seven of his children and their cousin during a domestic dispute that spread across two homes in Shreveport.
He reportedly first shot his wife before sunrise at a residence, then went to a second home where eight children were gathered and opened fire,execution style. One child escaped by jumping from the roof and alerted authorities.
The victims aged 3 to 11 were identified as Jayla, Shayla, Kayla, Layla, Markaydon, Sariahh, Khedarrion, and Braylon. Seven were his biological children;(four with his wife and three with another woman that lived nearby) the eighth was their cousin.
Another adult woman was also critically injured.
Investigators say the attack stemmed from a separation dispute, with a court date scheduled for the next day. Elkins reportedly told his brother in law that he did not want to lose his wife and that he was filled with negative thoughts...

After the shootings, Elkins carjacked a vehicle and fled before dying in an armed confrontation with the Police in Bossier Parish.
