Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State. He won the party’s primary election on Thursday May 21, 2026 with a total of 268,497 votes.

Chinda was the only aspirant left in the race after others, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, stepped down. The returning officer and chairman of the APC governorship primary committee, Bitrus Kwamoti, announced the result at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt.
He confirmed that Chinda met all the requirements and is now the party’s flag bearer. Chinda is a well-known ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. He served as the Minority Leader in the House of Representatives.
