As a person living with HIV, I take extra steps every day to make sure the people around me are protected and safe. It is not just about my health, it is about being mindful of others and doing what is right.
For many people, HIV is still surrounded by fear and misunderstanding. Some assume that people living with the virus are careless or dangerous to be around. The truth is often the opposite. Many of us who live with HIV are extremely conscious of our actions because we understand the importance of preventing transmission.
One of the most important things I do is stay consistent with my treatment. Taking antiretroviral therapy regularly helps keep the virus under control. When treatment is taken properly and the viral load becomes undetectable, the risk of passing HIV to a sexual partner becomes extremely low. This is why adherence to treatment is not just about personal health, it is also a way of protecting others.
I also believe strongly in honesty and responsible behavior. Open conversations with partners about health and protection matter. Using protection during sex and making informed decisions together helps build trust and safety in relationships.
Beyond relationships, I also live my life in a way that avoids any situation where my blood could put someone else at risk. Simple awareness and caution go a long way. These choices may seem small, but they reflect a deep respect for the wellbeing of others.
Living with HIV does not mean someone is reckless or irresponsible. In many cases, it means the person has become more aware, more careful, and more committed to protecting those around them.
At the end of the day, being HIV positive has strengthened my sense of responsibility. I value my health, and I value the safety of the people in my life. Taking care of myself and protecting others go hand in hand. It is simply the right thing to do.
