Nigerian Govt Declares June 12th Public Holiday To Mark Democracy Day

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, June 12, 2026, a public holiday in honour of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.


The announcement was issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, through a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the minister, June 12 remains a major landmark in Nigeria’s democratic history, representing the courage, resilience and sacrifices of citizens who fought for the restoration and protection of democratic governance.
The Federal Government urged Nigerians to reflect on the significance of the day and continue supporting efforts that strengthen the nation’s democracy.
