The suspects were arrested on May 16, 2026, in Kokona Local Government Area. They were operating inside land covered by Exploration Licence No. 036528-EL, which belongs to TIMADIX Geomin Consult Ltd. The case is now before Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Trial is set to begin on June 18, 2026. The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/281/2026, says the group broke mining laws by working without a valid licence. The offence carries a possible penalty of life imprisonment if they are found guilty.
Key Details of the Case:
• The illegal mining happened around coordinates: longitude 8° 4’ 12”E and latitude 8° 34’ 12”N.
• The defendants include named Chinese citizens (such as Liu Jiabin, Hu Yunzhong, and others) and nine Nigerians, plus a company called C and A International New Energy Ltd.
• The court granted them bail on simple conditions: they must hand over their passports and national ID cards. No cash or sureties were required. Their lawyer gave an undertaking that they will attend trial.
The Commander of the Mining Marshals, Attah John Onoja, said the action shows their commitment to stop illegal mining and protect Nigeria’s mineral resources. He called it a national duty.
