The victims were taken on May 15, 2026, from schools in Ahoro‑Esinele and Yawota communities. About 39 pupils and seven teachers were abducted, and more than two weeks later, they remain in captivity, causing deep fear and frustration among teachers and parents.
The NUT national leadership issued a clear directive to the Oyo State wing, instructing all public school teachers to stay away from classrooms until the victims return home. The union described the situation as heartbreaking and unacceptable, insisting that the safety of teachers and learners must come first.
