A U.S. federal court has allowed the government to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syrians and Haitians, clearing the way for the program to be phased out after years of legal battles.
The ruling means thousands of Syrians and Haitians who have lived in the United States under TPS protections could lose their legal status once the government sets final termination dates.
Immigrant‑rights groups say the decision puts vulnerable families at risk, while the government argues that conditions in both countries have changed enough to justify ending the program.
