A coalition of youths and students on Sunday staged a protest in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, against insecurity and other forms of criminality in the North-East and across Nigeria. The protesters, carrying placards with various inscriptions, called on the Federal Government to deploy all available resources to rescue the schoolchildren abducted in Mussa and Lassa communities in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Gunmen have killed 36 people, including nine members of the same family, in separate attacks on communities in Plateau, Benue and Niger states. The attacks, which occurred over the weekend, are the latest in a series of assaults on rural communities by armed men who have continued to kill and kidnap residents while destroying livelihoods.

Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, has declared the All Progressives Congress the winner of the local government election held across 192 wards and 18 local government areas. A total of 12 political parties fielded candidates for the election. Chairman of EDSIEC, Johnson Aifuobhokhan, said APC candidates won all the councillorship seats and the 18 chairmanship seats.

The Federal Ministry of Education has given approval for the National Examinations Council, NECO and the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, to increase registration fee for their Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE, to N50,000 per candidate, beginning in 2027. The increase would see NECO SSCE internal examination fee jumping from N30,000 per candidate to N50,000, while that of WAEC would jump to the same amount from N27,000.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised an ISWAP cameraman and recovered video recordings indicating the presence of three foreign terrorist facilitators, including a Palestinian identified as the group’s trainer and a Moroccan serving as a medical doctor for the insurgents. The All Progressives Congress has said the failure of opposition political parties to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission deadline for the submission of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections reflects what it described as their lack of preparedness for the polls. In a statement on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, APC said the opposition lacks the ability to effectively manage its internal processes.

. Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, says he has initiated legal action against individuals spreading what he described as false reports about a nurse’s death. Umahi spoke on Sunday while inspecting work along the Ebonyi section of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Super Highway. Social media claims alleged secrecy surrounding the death of nurse, Mary Habila, inside Umahi’s compound in his hometown.
