Snapchat Blogger Arrested After Posting Anonymous Harmful Gossip

A young woman who operated an anonymous Snapchat gossip page in Calabar was reportedly tracked down and handed over to the police after posting harmful and unverified stories about some people. 

She had invited people to send anonymous messages, and many submitted false and damaging claims, which she published without verification.

One of the most serious allegations targeted a popular club owner, accusing him of cheating on his wife and having H-eye-V. The rumor spread across Calabar within a week, affected his business and leading to his wife leaving their home. Other business owners and married women were also named and accused of prostitution or infidelity.

According to reports, the blogger continued posting because her page was gaining views and she had begun accepting adverts to profit from the attention.
Those affected later traced her to her home, confronted her, and she was beaten. They forced her to record an apology video, stating that the H-eye-V claim was false.
She was then taken to the police and asked to provide proof of the allegations and identify the anonymous senders. She reportedly told people she only did it to grow her Snapchat account.
