Terrorist Group Commanders Plead Guilty To Terrorism And Kidnapping Charges

Two Ansaru commanders, Mahmud Usman and Abubakar Abba, have pleaded guilty to a 32‑count charge involving terrorism financing, kidnapping for ransom, illegal mining, and the fabrication of explosive devices.

The men, also known as Mahmud Al‑Nigeri and Abu Baraa, admitted to coordinating sleeper cells, planning attacks, and maintaining links with terrorist groups across the Sahel and Maghreb.

They changed their plea before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Usman had earlier pleaded guilty only to illegal mining used to fund terrorism and was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, while Abba initially denied all charges.

At their re‑arraignment, both defendants entered a full guilty plea.
Prosecuting counsel David Kwase asked the court to convict them immediately in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Their lawyers urged the court to consider the guilty plea as a sign of repentance.
Ansaru is a violent extremist organization responsible for severe harm, loss of life, and human rights violations.

  2. Repentance indeed. Someone that takes pleasure in killing, maiming and hurting innocent and defenseless people. They are cruel and cowards at the same time. May God punish them and the innocent souls they've hurt continue to hunt them.
