They want to inherit your peace, your progress, your planning, your power, and they’ll call it “compatibility.” They want your empathy, your unpaid emotional labor, your unwavering support, your body, your time, your fertile organs, your silence, and your sacrifice not because they want to share life with you, but because you make life easier for them. It’s all about you serving them. They’re not bringing anything to the table.
And the scary part? You’d never be able to recognize this. You won’t always know this early because some men mirror your language, study your softness, weaponize your desperation, play into your expectation, until you’re too invested to pull back.

So how do you know if a man is with you strategically and not emotionally?
1. Ask direct questions. What are you looking for in this relationship? What do you value most in a woman? Etc etc. Some of them could be honest. An honest man tells you what he wants! He’s not angry that you’ve asked this question, rather he reassures you that he wants you both to be partners in this journey called life.
2. Check for patterns over time. Patterns don’t lie. I read a story of a young woman whose bobo always backs out when she needs help. And this help has nothing to do with money o.
Does he expect you to mother him, tolerate his behaviours etc? Does he respect you? Does he recognize your rights as a human being and as a woman?
3. Sometimes these relationships feel transactional. You’re giving love, but he’s not reciprocating. Many women know when they’re giving too much but somehow society has convinced them to believe they’re overthinking. You know when you’re building with him but he’s not receiving any of this well, but resents you. etc…
4. Listen to inner cues too. Many times some of these men are very vocal with the woman they want. I want a woman who can cook me fresh meals. I don’t want you to work. You may get hints through his social media hot takes and all, his mindset and friends, his WhatsApp status, his talks with his friends, how he treats the women before you, his female friends, even how he treats his mother compared to how he treats his dad.
5. Observe what he’s giving to you and what you’re giving to him too. Does he invest time with you? Helps you grow? Or he is all about gifts while nothing for your personal development? Are you also giving him sex, emotional support and receiving nothing? Is he love bobbing you? He seems so obsessed with you that you can hardly breathe or have a life?
See! The cues are always there. Women just fail to see them, can’t recognize them or see them and just assume things would change.

You see, in life people will only tell the side of the story that suits their narrative. Just like the ancient proverb says: "Until the animals have their own historian, the hunt will always glorify the hunter."
As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned to live peacefully with everyone.
Most importantly, I’ve learned to forgive those who wronged me, and to seek forgiveness from those I’ve wronged. Life is unpredictable. No one knows what tomorrow holds. So be kind to one another.
Before you hold grudges or an unforgiving heart toward anyone, remember they were once good to you. I watched a video where someone had just passed on. In less than 48 hours, friends flew in from different countries. Those in Nigeria even boarded night buses to pay their last respects.
What touched me was this: in their speeches, they were forgiving a woman who could no longer hear them or acknowledge their presence. They had all the time to forgive each other while she was alive, but they held on to malice.
Now it was too late, and they did it with tears.
What’s the point of organizing a befitting burial for someone you held bondage against in your heart while they were alive?
Life indeed is a mystery.
