Former footballer John Fashanu has apologised to his daughter Amal, whom he accused of spreading false stories about his health.
In May, Fashanu publicly denied claims linked to Amal. He said she was not managing his affairs and that he had no health problems from heading footballs, and that he wanted some distance from her.

On Friday 7 August, 2026 Fashanu posted a new video on Instagram saying the earlier video was wrong. He explained that his wife Vivian had misinformed him and announced that he is divorcing her and will take legal action against her.
In the video he said: “The video I previously did was wrong. I was misinformed by my wife Vivian whom I am sorry to say I am divorcing. Now that I am aware of the truth, I apologise to my daughter Amal and legal action will be taken against the liar.”
In the caption he added that he had asked Amal to help with his business because she is his first daughter. He said Vivian created division between them and he regrets listening to someone else’s anger. He described his relationship with Amal as wonderful and said she will always have a place by his side.
