According to the government, the suspects were caught after a joint midnight operation by officers of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, and the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, task force.
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the arrests were made following Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive to clear the Lagos-Badagry Transnational Highway of environmental infractions, illegal motor parks, roadside trading and other unlawful activities.
The commissioner stated that investigations showed the hoodlums deliberately removed important parts of the bridge. They allegedly took iron rods, steel reinforcements, cables and other materials used to support the bridge.
He described the act as a serious threat to public safety and to government’s investment in public projects.
“The operation led to the arrest of 27 suspected hoodlums, who will be prosecuted in accordance with the extant laws of Lagos State,” Wahab said in a post on X.

I watched the video and cried. This people are wicked. When have we gotten to this level of wickedness. If they were not caught, people will wake up one day and find out the bridge has collapsed. This wicked people have removed all the manholes in FCT. If you are trekking along the road, you need to be very careful to avoid falling into a ditch. They have started selling the green rails installed by Wike.
ReplyDeleteEvil Bastards is what I call these evil people who go about destroying government efforts. Maybe Nigeria should adopt Chinese form of persecutions, so that there will be sanity in the country! My only issue is that some victims of such will be innocent. I hate destructive elements.

Pls don't come for me....but have you noticed that the people involved in this "bolar" business are mostly northerners. Most of them are of no fixed address. Sometimes i feel that the authorities are afraid of them and what they can do. Most of them behave like people who have no care for life and can do and undo if you over harass them. I live along the OPIC Kara corridor and the degradation there is terrible: median have been turned to toilets, the expansion joints on the bridges keep getting stolen, the bridge rails that were done with cement are being broken and the iron inside stolen. The situation is very tiring.
ReplyDeleteWhy should anyone come for you? For stating the truth and obvious? Until government tackles them ruthlessly before such may reduce. State government should bundle as much of them back to wherever they come from once caught with such terrible acts.
