Haruna Bashir, the man whose life was shattered in January when attackers stormed his Chiranchi home and killed his wife, Fatima Abubakar, and their six children while he was out at the market, has remarried after months of grief that left him alone in an empty house....
Bashir joined 1,500 couples in the Kano State Government’s mass wedding programme, marrying Nabila Kabiru Yunusa. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had visited him after the tragedy, promising support a new house in Amana City, welfare assistance, Hajj and Umrah sponsorship, and help to remarry. Bashir accepted the offer and even donated his former home to be converted into an Islamiyya school.
The mass wedding targeted widows and people unable to afford marriage costs, with each bride receiving dowry funds, business support, and household items. Officials say Bashir is slowly finding stability again, rebuilding life from the ashes of unimaginable loss.
