Media Entrepreneur Mo' Abudu Talks About Respect, Love Life, And Business Acumen.

EbonyLife CEO Mo Abudu says she is big on respect  and say she would rather date someone her age or older who has achieved something...

She described herself as a traditional woman because of how she was brought up by her grandmother in Ondo state, which has shaped her views concerning respect and its accordance. She said, " I am very traditional. I was brought up in Ondo by my grandmother. You can't be calling me by my first name anyhow. I won't take it!."

She also spoke on her business acumen and claimed that if she were a man, she would have probably been called a "shark." She believes people will say she is an astute businesswoman, though some people play victim when they fail at their role or what was expected of them.

And on love life, she declared that her heart is so strong that nobody can break it. She maintained that heartbreak no longer worries her at her age and she says that she would rather date someone her age or older, and for her to respect a partner, he must have achieved something.

  2. I completely agree with her on the respect aspect. Just yesterday, I had an experience that reminded me how much we are losing the cultural language of respect we were raised with. A little girl, much younger than my youngest daughter, kept referring to me as “O” in Yoruba. I corrected her, & she immediately apologised and switched to “E.” Her mother, however, said, “KΓ³ matter.” And I thought, this is exactly how we lose these things. Children have to be taught. I see myself as partly Yoruba by virtue of the fact that I grew up in Lagos and I was raised to understand that how you address people matters.

And this is also why I understood the whole Tony Elumelu “Don’t call me Tony” conversation. πŸ˜‚ There is nothing wrong with being modern or approachable, but familiarity does not automatically mean intimacy. If we are not age mates, friends or colleagues in a culture where first names are the norm, please accord me the respect due to me. Simple. Respect is reciprocal, but it is also something we must consciously teach the next generation.

    2. Thanks for the compliment. I’m from Akwa Ibom State, but my parents moved to Lagos before I turned five, and I’ve lived here ever since. So, I pretty much see myself as a Lagosian. 😊

Akwa Ibom by origin but Lagos raised me.

  5. Just like our politicians, this lady has ruined the career of many banking execs that fell unto/btw her laps. Wanted to do same to GTB but they were ahead of her.

    1. My sister, you couldn’t have said it any better. I witnessed one this morning standing toe-to-toe with an elderly woman, giving her a proper stare-down. He was practically telling her to do her worst! I couldn’t help but wonder where the children of this generation get such audacity from.
