Nigeria’s headline inflation rate eased to 15.43 per cent in July 2026. However, the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics showed renewed pressure on food prices. According to the data, food inflation accelerated sharply on a month-on-month basis. The NBS disclosed this in its Consumer Price Index report for July 2026, released on Monday, showing that headline inflation fell by 0.48 percentage points from the 15.91 per cent recorded in June.

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has destroyed two cannabis plantations weighing 4,628.9kg, and arrested 10 suspected drug traffickers in separate operations across the state. This was disclosed on Monday by the state Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Zone 2 Command, Mr Olohundare Jimoh has assured Nigerians of adequate security ahead of the 2027 elections. Jimoh said the police were fully prepared and that there was no cause for fear. The AIG gave the assurance on Monday at the command headquarters.

The naira on Monday appreciated by N8.07 against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market, closing at N1,349.53. Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, official website showed that the naira gained N8.07 from the N1,357.60 recorded on Friday.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Kaduna State University, KASU, chapter, has raised concerns over the departure of more than 200 lecturers. The Chairman of ASUU-KASU, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi, disclosed this at a press conference on Monday in Kaduna. He said the lecturers, including professors, left the institution due to poor conditions of service and the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.

Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of spending N60 billion to buy votes in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election.
Fayose made the allegation on Monday during an interview on News Central Television, lamenting that the money was taken from taxpayers across the country.
He said the APC would not have secured 100,000 votes without vote trading, criticising the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies over their alleged failure to prevent such practices.

Deji Adeleke, a businessman and the father of afrobeats singer, Davido, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, spent around N60 billion on vote-buying during the Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke also claimed that the APC used N50,000 to buy votes in some areas during the governorship election.
Speaking in Osogbo, the state capital, the businessman revealed that his prayers helped Governor Ademola Adeleke to win the election.
He disclosed that he prayed that voters would take APC’s money but vote for his brother.
