The women are 43 year old Chikanso James and 41 year old Happiness Okoye. Police stopped them during a routine patrol on Platform One at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Officers became suspicious of how they were moving with their luggage and searched their bags under India’s narcotics laws. They recovered about 2.28 kilograms of cocaine packed in 11 packets. Police say the drugs are worth around Rs 20 crore, which is roughly N380 million. Forensic tests later confirmed the substance was cocaine.
Authorities believe the pair were part of an interstate drug network moving cocaine between Delhi and Mumbai. During questioning, one of the women said the drugs were collected from the Vikaspuri area in west Delhi. Police have seized their passports and are still investigating possible links to a larger group. One woman was held in police custody while the other was sent to judicial custody.
The case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Indian police described the seizure as a successful disruption of an alleged trafficking route.
