Woman Reportedly Births Twins With Different Biological Fathers

An Australian surrogate mother from Queensland gave birth to biologically unrelated twins after naturally conceiving her own child while simultaneously carrying another couple's implanted IVF embryo.

In early 2025, the 27-year-old surrogate had an embryo implanted for an intended couple. She then naturally conceived a child with her own husband around the same time.
Ultrasounds revealed she was carrying twins, and she delivered a boy (her biological child) and a girl (the intended couple's biological child) via caesarean section in November 2025.

The case went to the Children's Court of Queensland in August 2026 because state surrogacy laws ban separating "birth siblings".
Judge Jodie Wooldridge ruled that because the infants were conceived separately from different biological pairings, they were "gestational twins" rather than legal birth siblings.
The ruling allowed each set of parents to have their respective legal parentage formally recognized without any disputes.
Both families intend for the children to grow up knowing each other.
