Airlines Threaten Nationwide Shutdown Over Labour Union Interference

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has warned that domestic airlines may shut down nationwide if labour unions disrupt any carrier through picketing.

AON issued the warning after a meeting in Abuja on September 22, 2026, stressing full support for Air Peace and other member airlines. The group says it will no longer tolerate unlawful interference in airline operations.

This follows the August 11,2026 incident where labour unions blocked access to Air Peace terminals in Lagos and Abuja, accusing airlines of owing workers’ charges and preventing staff from joining unions. AON says the blockade exposed serious airport security lapses and even led to union members attacking airline workers.
The group added that airlines do not benefit from delays or cancellations, noting that most disruptions in Nigeria come from factors outside airline control.

  3. Why don't you want your staffs to join union? Now you are co-opting other airline operators to endorse your wicked idea. The air won't have peace.
