She stressed that NAFDAC only acts after proper investigation, sampling and laboratory testing.
The agency explained that it mainly regulates processed and packaged foods, while unbranded market items fall under state and local authorities. Fresh imported fruits are handled by the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service.
Between May and July 2026, NAFDAC inspected 6,233 facilities nationwide and removed 7,210 non‑compliant products, mostly food and water. It also secured 64 convictions for counterfeiting, with offenders receiving one to seven years in prison.
It urged Nigerians to report suspicious products through official channels instead of relying solely on social media.
