The Oba also stripped the leader of the Isikhuan group, Juliet Omogui, of her traditional title, Okao.
Trouble reportedly began when the Isikhuan singers performed a sacred Benin ritual that’s strictly reserved for the Oba.
The performance was at the residence of Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, instead of the palace.
The suspension was made public by Chief Osaro Idah, Obazelu of Benin, at a Sunday emergency meeting in the palace, and members of the group were also given time to explain their involvement in the controversial performance.
