Davido’s Sister Sharon Explains Why Some People Would Not Make Good Friends With Her


Sharon Ademefun, the elder sister of Afrobeats star Davido, recently shared a clear list of reasons why certain people might not fit as her friends. She spoke openly in a video about past hurts and the rules she now follows to protect her peace.

Sharon said she has had her heart broken many times in Nigeria over friendships. Because of that, she takes one to two years to properly check someone out before calling them a real friend. She uses a kind of checklist.
One point that stood out is about fans of her brother. Being a Davido fan is fine, she said. But if someone talks about him all the time or keeps looking at the door as if he might walk in any moment, that is a no. “We can’t be friends if you’re too much of a Davido fan,” she put it simply.

She also has firm house rules. Sharon mentioned she deals with OCD-level cleanliness. Outside shoes stay downstairs. She does not do room sharing. Friends must also be organised, especially for trips. She likes planning far ahead, sometimes a full year so things stay smooth and costs stay lower for the kind of luxury travel she prefers.

Money stays separate from friendship. She does not lend money anymore after getting burnt in the past. If she wants to help someone financially, she just gives it with no expectation of return.

Other deal breakers include passive-aggressive behaviour, possessiveness, entitlement, and people who try to climb socially by forcing themselves into her space (what she called “famz”). She does not want to be anyone’s only friend either. “I cannot be your only friend, get a life. I enjoy my solitude,” she said.

Birthdays are not a big production for her. She might forget a friend’s birthday or a child’s, and she does not feel the need to post about friends on Instagram because those posts have become too political in her view. She also avoids poorly planned outings and finds going out in Lagos expensive most of the time.
