According to Stella Damasus, she, Genevieve, and Omotola commanded a massive cult-like fan base and dominated the screen in the late 1990s and 2000s.

In her words:
"They called us the big three; Genevieve, Omotola, Stella, the three of us were in this thing playing friends
We were very authentic, we were not trying to be like other people, we were not trying to copy other people or be who we were not, everything was authentic
We were not doing it because of the fame or the money, there was no social media to tell us how big we could get, we did not know, after you see yourself on the poster, that's about it , people would recognise you here and there at that time
And you just see young beautiful talented women coming to do this job with everything they've got and so much determination to succeed and I won't lie it also brought a lot of comparisons; fans who love this person more than this person so it meant that we had to keep proving ourselves that we are better , nobody wanted to be the weakest link".
I remember watching them together and there was one movie I enjoyed I can't recall the name right now. Damascus was the happily married who had her twins for her ex boyfriend who was bob Manuel but she later married Zack orji and was the quiet dutiful wife adored by her husband who later divorced her. while Genevieve was the vivacious diva/celebrity who was so full of herself and believed no woman could get her beau who was Desmond Elliot so she challenged the boring Omotola whose looks and personality turned out to be not so boring after all, to try and get her boyfriend Desmond to fall for her, because she felt she couldn't snag a man, only for Desmond Elliot to fall like a pack of cards for Omotola and started chasing her.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see how far they and I(who watched them)😁 have all come and still here standing strong looking beautiful. All Glory to God.
I remember that movie
DeleteI loved it too
The movie description sounds familiar, and I am pretty sure it is GAMES WOMEN PLAY. I have seen it over and over, yet it never gets old.
DeleteThis your comment brings back so many good memories. They were truly the queens of our screens back then, We really did watch them make history, and look at us now....still here and standing strong! And it's amazing to see everyone still thriving and glowing. Glory to God!

DeleteBaci, you got it! That's the title. Games women play. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteStella we all love(d) seeing you in movies but you can't exclude Stephanie Okereke when choosing the most loved of that era.
ReplyDeleteTrue. I agree with you. The thing be say dem plenty wey she no include.
DeleteRita Dominic
DeleteSusan Patrick
Dakore
So on And So Forth
Rita actually came later, so she is not included in the era she's talking about. You can categorize Rita with Uni Edo, Uche Jombo and Oge Okoye not Stella. The only name missing in the list Stella mentioned is Stephanie Okereke. If you want to stretch it, you add the actress and ex politician who cried a lot in movies or

ReplyDeleteShe is telling the truth. And I think she was talking in terms of younger women. Stella was and is still very big even before Gene took over. Those saying Rita let's not go there. Stella is a great actress. Naturally versatile and her acting is top notch.
