I walk in spiritual discernment and recognise the opportunities, responsibilities and assignments God has given me to fulfil my role faithfully and effectively in the ministry of the Gospel. The Gospel is advancing through me, and the Name of Jesus is known and magnified in all the earth. Amen.

VICTORY: AN “INSIDE JOB”

In 1928, a happy, ambitious nursing student was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Back then, such a diagnosis often meant a death sentence. Her family sent her to a nursing home for several months, hoping for a cure. She remained in bed for the next twenty-one years! Many people would have given up, but not Isabel Smith.

Isabel neared death on several occasions, but her faith remained strong, and she never ceased to pursue the art of living. She read voraciously, wrote letters, studied geography and taught other patients to read and write. From her bed she studied atomic energy with a fellow patient, a young physicist, and organised a town hall meeting on the topic. While ill, she met a kind, gentle man, also a patient at the nursing home. She dreamed of marrying him and having a little house 'under the mountains'. At her lowest ebb, her dream kept her going. And in 1948, she got married. She then authored a book called Wish I Might, published in 1955. The book was 'about all the good things life has brought me', and it earned her enough royalties to buy her the mountain retreat she dreamed of.

A tragic life? Hardly! Isabel Smith achieved everything she set out to achieve, though the odds against her were overwhelming. Even when flat on her back in bed, she never stopped growing, learning, dreaming and giving. 'Though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day' (2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV). Victory is an 'inside job'.

I found myself thinking deeply about life last night, about the things I once considered so important while growing up and how differently I see them today.

A quiet voice reminded me that life is a cycle. A child is born, and someone dedicates years to caring for and providing for that child. Eventually, the child grows into an adult and begins the same journey, working, building, providing, and caring for others. And the cycle continues.

As we grow older, our circle of friends gradually become smaller, almost like a pyramid. I have seen people who lived in great affluence die very broke, and I have seen people who started life not sure where the next meal will come from rise to great wealth. I have also seen families with immense wealth kill themselves and become divided after the death of the person who suffered to make the wealth. Children fighting over what their parents spent a lifetime building.

At the end of it all, so many things we spend our lives chasing are temporary no wonder King Solomon in the bible summed everything to vanity upon vanity.

Do you know who I am? calm down people better than you have existed. Do you know your great grand parent? They too where hot babes and guys, bubbling with full life but are now dead and forgotten. One day no one will remember how you looked.

God did it...

It seems we are almost in the dry season. The rainfall is no longer as heavy as it used to be. I feel harmattan will be here pretty soon. In the last one week, I haven't slept with my AC or fan on due to the cold nights. Maybe the cold is because my apartment is upstairs and my bed is close to the window. I can only imagine how intense harmattan will be when it fully sets in.
