Veteran Yoruba actress Toyin Afolayan (popularly known as Lola Idije) has spoken up for women who are raising children without husbands. She said not every single mother chose that life, and they should not be judged .

Lola who was a guest on the African A-list Podcast said “Not everybody will have a husband to help them raise their children. So women have to carry their burden alone. Not all of them choose that life. Some situations are caused by enemies and others by family circumstances. So the fact that a woman doesn’t have a husband doesn’t mean she is a fool or does not know what she’s doing. Such a woman should be praised because some people are destined to marry at the age of 40 or 50. But if you start pressuring them at 20, how can you be sure that they won’t marry the wrong person?”
The possibility of a woman marrying at 50 is slim, not impossible, but rare. When you consider factors like menopause and the time needed to have and raise children especially for a family that wants 3 or 4 kids, the timeframe becomes quite tight.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I know it's not easy for single women at that stage who are struggling to settle down. But I'll also say this. Marriage isn't all there is to life. Life can still be beautiful and fulfilling for a woman without marriage.
