Ex President Obasanjo Quote

“During my administration as President, we had some people who were
under 50 years in leadership positions. One of them was Alamieseigha,
where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today?
“The youngest was the Speaker, Buhari, you can still recall what
happened to him.

“You said Bola Tinubu is your master; what Buhari did was not anything
worse than what Bola Tinubu did. We got Buhari impeached.
“But in this part of the world, some people covered up the other man.
The man claimed he went to Government College, Ibadan, but the
Governor of Oyo State then went to Government College and packed all
the documents so that they would not know that he did not go there.

“I wanted someone who would succeed me, so I took Atiku. Within a
year, I started seeing the type of man Atiku is. And you want me to
get him there?

“I once went to Tanzania because Julius Nyerere recognised Biafra. He
told me not to mind his aides and others in government. They would say
they have one house in town, but their five-year-old sons and
daughters would have houses all over.
“Some of you who are condemning the leadership would get there
tomorrow and it will be a different story. Only very few are actually
good.

“Abacha, my predecessor, got $750 million. Through our lawyer in
Switzerland we recovered $1.25 billion and the lawyer still said there
is probably still another $1 billion to be recovered.

“In 1979 we had 20 new ships specially built for Nigeria. When I came
back 20 years after, the national shipping line had liquidated.
“The whole thing is not just about leadership. If we talk about good
leadership, you should also talk about good followers. If you talk
about human rights, you should also talk about human duties and
obligations.”

-Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

    1. He is very correct. Absolutely spot on. OBJ is a very practical person, he argues with facts. But of course, the people who want to shut him up will gloss over the very visible.

How many of us can honestly boast of been sincere, candid and diligent in the little position we are occupying right now? People that have criticized the government are in government right now and are doing worse than those they criticized.

  10. Leadership is always by example. What example did Obasanjo set for his successors to follow. Right from his days as military head of State. Murtala Mohammed banned the most corrupt politicians. Obasanjo not only un-banned them but also handed over power to them. He is now lamenting that he left 20 ships but met none when he came back. When you use a cat to guard fish what do you expect? Do you still expect to find the fish intact when you return? We are even lucky that Nigeria is still standing as a country till today. Obasanjo laid a horrible leadership foundation for this country way back in 1979 and that warped foundation will continue to haunt this country. Successive leaders are merely taking their cue from him.

  19. Let me give an instance because. the best place to lick asses is Politics;group of Nigerian. journalist came to interview a said leader and after they were interviewed they were handed brown envelopes but they collected;France Nationals came in for that same interview and they were handed brown envelopes as well but they blatantly refused. There is what we call Psyche and it affects at least 90% of its citizens;Mexicans are known for immigrants,Arabs terrorism and Africans are known for Corruption and povertye; Corruption is key here and trails the Nigerian blood due to poverty,if wwe can eradicate poverty then we can have loyal followers;but the question here is ''What happens to the followers when the leader smell and bread corruption?''

  22. Yes it's not all about leadership but human duties and obligations. for instance this morning on my way to work in Oshodi bus and this bus branched into a top filling station to fill his tank. He asked for a fill of 1500n but unknown to the conductor the fuel attendant sold just 400 worth of fuel to them. then we left, but along the way, the driver noticed that the fuel gauge dint rise so he asked the conductor if he actually saw the fuel attendant wipe the pump before selling to them. in the process a commuter in the bus said she saw it clearly that the man dint wipe that it was 400naira worth he sold. My people, na so we turn back oo, got there and confronted the man and he dint even argue and speedily sold the remaining 1100 to them.
Now I ask, is that government? we keep killing ourselves in Nigeria and tend to blame every on the government.

  26. For the first time, I must confess that he has said the truth...........its not just the leaders that are corrupt.....the followers are too......and every leader starts from being a follower.......it not just about sitting and blaming the leaders. How many follower will reach that position and still maintain their integrity........the change we all seek must start from U and I...........
