MISCARRIAGE.....Why Does She 'Keep' Losing The Baby?

PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE PREGNANT.

This is one topic i know will touch a lot of women who have been there.

I have a cousin,I love her so much that when i remember what she went through,i cry....i still do.
My cousin Elo lost three pregnancies.....all almost full term.
She carried the pregnancies but gave birth to still born babies. She is a strong babe and as soon as it happened, she tried again...It was a scary situation.
Eventually she had to be put on some kind of injections before she carried a full term pregnancy, its all history for her now but the darling went through hell and back.

A lot of women are still in this condition today and they do not have the financial means to seek help, some do but its not working..some have been labelled witch by family members who do not understand that she is going through a serious medical condition.

Why does this happen?how do some women weather this storm?
Has it happened to you?do you want to tell us your story to help and encourage someone else going through the same? Is there a local remedy that helped someone out there?

Are there any Doctors in the house to explain why this happens and what can be done?I know for a fact that a blog visitor has had four miscarriages and at present finds it difficult to conceive.
She is at the point of desperation.

What causes these pregnancies to abort and what can be done

We want to be interactive and find out how some people solved the problem and how we can help others.

*To all the women still nursing deep pains from losing pregnancies, don't you worry, heaven has got a plan for you all!

  1. My mom had 3 miscarriages before she had us. Turns out the problem was the mouth of her uterus was loose so for a pregnancy to stay, the mouth of her uterus had to be tied as soon as she took in. That's how she had all of us. Painful procedure but worth it. My friend also had a couple of miscarriages before she sought medical help. They found out that her uterus was too hot for a foetus to survive. The problem was treated and kids started coming. If you find yourself having two miscarriages, carry out extensive medical research. Don't sit down and say its your village people o. Ehen.

  2. What was Elo's diagnosis? The injection you mentioned makes me think it has to do with incompability of her and her husban's Rhesus factors. Its a major cause of miscarriages which injections at the right time would have sorted. But a lot of women are ignorant of it, and sadly, some doctors too.

  3. Well apart from the "mouth of the uterus" called the Cervix being loose as Anon said, there is a condition of a pregnant woman not having enough progesterone(a hormone that sustains pregnancy) to sustain pregnancy,She now has to be placed on synthetic progesterone to tide her over.If this is not done she continues loosing her babies

    2. For all the mother out there who have ever had a miscarriage, I got a quote for you from Carlymarie.

" you might not be able to hold me
BUT I CAN FEEL YOUR LOVE
and that is all that matters".

According to webmd.com, the common causes of miscarriages are infections, exposure to radiation or toxic agents. Hormonal problems. Uterine abnormalities. Incompetent cervix. Lifestyle; smoking, drinking, illegal drugs . Kidney problems. Heart disease. Diabetes. Thyroid disease. Medications like Accutane for acne(pimples). Malnutrition.

And immune system problems like mine . Lupus.

The solution is to find the underlying problem with blood and diagnostic test. Then try again with prayers.

You are your best doctor. Research the Internet, read books, visit SDK's blog (famzing).

In conclusion, prayers and meditations works wonders.

  5. This topic is very close to my heart cos I have had about 8 pregnancy losses that am aware of.
Most times its between the 8th and 10th week.
I had 2 losses after I got married to my darling hubby...both losses at 10 wks. I took in the 3rd time that year and was placed on progesterone injection by my new gynae..i think this made the difference with prayers of course and I carried to term and had my beautiful son!
After my son it took us awhile to take in again...maybe cos hubby was out of the country for a year.
I eventually took in but it has been from one preggy loss to another.
Will be having all the symptoms only for me to go do scan...no heart beat..scan will show a younger fetus than my dates will suggest.
My son is 8 yrs now and really craving for a sibling!!! He loves babies so much..
And am like God you gave me this boy that loves babies and you are yet to give him his own!
I still thank God for my wonderful son and the bone of my bone-my husband that absolutely worships the ground I walk on..love u babes..
Stella God bless u for this topic..
Who knows I may get some answers here.
NB; medically I have run all tests to know why. .

She is at the hospital as i type now, she delivered twins (boy and girl) at 7 months, the boy has died but the girl is still in the incubator. Same thinghappened to her last year, she had twin boys at 5 months and they didn't survive.

I feel so sorry for her cos she has been through a lot lately. I will really like to know if their is a remedy to this situation cos she is getting depressed. Talked to her this morning and I didn't like the way she sounded. God please wipe her tears. I want my jolly good friend back. #sadmuch

  12. After 3 miscarriages and two beautiful kids, u can only but appreciate God for he is d ultimate. I had my first miscarriage a few months after getting married, the doctor termed it a "bilated Ovum", because the baby stopped growing after 6weeks, I believe it happened because I took an antibiotic injection, not knowing I was pregnant( even though my test result, came out negative), the second miscarriage occurred a few months later( first one was in Feb, d 2nd was in dec) the baby was about 9wks,the doctor didn"t have any explanation but I feel it was because I had sex with my hubby( I know it sounds lame, but studies have shown that some bacteria in the sperm can affect a growing foetus) .Then I took in again, had a handsome baby boy, It wasn"t easy, I and my hubby abstained from sex, d whole 9months, had to be given progesterone injections for over 7weeks..but it was worth it. Then took in again when my son was 2,but lost the pregnancy after 10weeks, the doctor again, didn"t have any explanation, they just cldn"t find a heartbeat anymore, but took in after a few months and had my beautiful daughter.... God is forever faithful. I believe the key is having faith in God to do that which he promised to do, then getting enlighten about pregnancy do n don"ts, also ur hospital and the doctor u are seeing matters alot. But like I said before God is the ultimate.

  14. There are various causes of miscarriage. In the 1st trimester it cld be congenital malformations (something genetically wrong with the embryo), this happens sometimes b4 the woman even knows she's preggy, and it cld also be nature's way of correcting a problem. Others cause of 1st trimester abortion include structural problems within the uterus eg fibroids, autoimmune issues where the woman's antibodies see the embryo as a foreign body and fight against it (rare though).

In the 2nd trimester the commonest cause is an incompetent cervix, where the cervix opens spontaneously and releases the fetus. It is common in women who have had d&cs in the past, though not the only cause.

In the 3rd trimester a common cause is undiagnosed gestational diabetes. Also rhesus incompatibility..

Trauma (both emeotional and physical), infections, drugs etc can cause abortions at any stage of pregnancy.

The bottomline is any woman who has had up to 2 consecutive miscarriages (some experts say 3, but why wait till the 3rd?), should go for a thorough investigation to find out the cause and avoid further heartache.

    1. Hey dear, you have been through a lot, I commend you for your strength and I'm grateful for God's mercies over you. You likely have something called cervical incompetence and hormones cannot correct that, only a cerclage will do. That doesn't rule out other possible causes like the LPD (luteal phase defect) too among others. I hope you're working with a good obstetrician sha cos there are so many incompetent ones out there. Take care Pls. I can recommend you one if you're having any doubts. Stay safe.

  16. A lot of medical conditions can cause recurrent miscariages and also death of the baby inside the womb. The commonest ones are : 1) diabetes 2) hypertension in pregnancy 3) cervical incompetence where the neck of the womb is loose and open and needs to be closed with a stitch early in pregnancy, say by 14weeks old 4) thrombophilia which is a blood clotting disorder that affects the placenta and causes death of the baby in the womb.Ask your doctor fora thrombophilia blood screen and if it's positive you may need to take baby dose aspirin and Heparin injection through out the pregnancy 5) thyroid problems 6) abnormally shaped wombs, this may need an operation to correct 7)Fibroids inside the lining of the womb which can distort the cavity of the womb and cause abnormal implantation of the pregnancy and therefore early miscarriage. Ask your doctor to check for all these and more.

  19. The problem of spontaneous abortion(miscarriage) is quite multifactorial...It has a lot of etiologies(Reasons)
The most common is uterus insufficiency, that cld be Uterus hypoplasia(Reduction in the size of the uterus)Leomyoma( Fibroids),cervical insufficiency and lots more...2. Infection too is a common etiology for miscarriage,it cld be an acute or chronic infection during or even before pregnancy(STD's or any infection at all)
Also immunological problems like Rhesus Factors incompatibility or ABO incompatibility is very common..
Chromosomal anomalies cld also cause miscarriage it cld be structural or quantity anomalies..
Also, hormonal insufficiency like luteal phase insufficiency or ovarian hypoplasia cld lead to miscarriage
To avoid miscarriage adequate check ups is required before and during pregnancy cos evaluation of possible spontaneous
abortions can only be discovered based on the history and routine examination by your doctor..Also psychogenic factors play a major role in spontaneous abortion especially stress during early and late stage of pregnancy,I've seen a lot of cases like that..
In patients with two or more history of miscarriage, the cause shld be evaluated and adequate treatment shld be given before the next pregnancy...

  20. Thanks SDK for a job well done. This is my first time of comenting. A lot of women go through a lot because of child bearing. I have three boys which I delievered through CS. Then I took in for the fourth one and it was a baby girl. Just about four to five days to the apointed date,I. Found out that the baby was not kicking well and I went to the hospital. My doctor carried out a scan and found out that the baby is already dead. Stella u can imagine my next action. I was crying and shouting on top of my voice. I nearly destroy things in my doctors office before they took me away. I saw my dreams and expectation died before me. I was operated again for the fourth time before they could bring out the baby. I can never forfget how pretty the baby was. One month after the CS I started bleeding which lasted for two weeks. I nearly died but God said its not yet my time. I give God the glory. To all my fellow women who have experience one problem or the other, just believe that God will wipe away ur tears. I also want u to know that almost all the women have one story or the other to tell concerning child bearing. May God see us through. Amen.

I salute your cousin's courage. 3 still births! The only foetus I saw drop out of me (I was alone when it happened) scarred me till this day.
I shed a tear yesterday when I read the comment of a blog visitor about her IVF experience. I've been there & also lost that pregnancy. I've done so many tests & investigations, nothing has been found out. Right now, I'm in God's waiting room and I know, certainly, that He is attending to my case.

  32. A missionary doctor writing: Nice topic; ask the lady that has been having miscarriages one question: How many times have you aborted? Medically, D&C causes the so called "loose cervix" (since this lower part of the womb is dilated to kill the baby). The scrapping of the inner portion of the uterus (endometrium) also causes adhesion (Ashaman's syndrome) when they kill the babies. So no fetus is able to stay in there subsequently. Now to the word of life;
Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the Lord hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto Him:
17 a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
Exodus 1; 18Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”

19The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”
20So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

  38. I had a miscarriage early last year on my 7th week, when the bleeding began, i really didn't feel pained and when i went for a scan it read "incomplete abortion" that still didn't move me. but when the doctors told me i had to do a D&C i didn't know what was ahead of me, until i laid on that operation table. Then i realized i had just lost a child, the pain was enormous, God, i don't wish that for my enemy. There i wept, wasnt weeping for the pain inflicted by the d&C but for the fact that i had been a careless mother, i drank alchohol, traveled long distance and really didnt care, maybe because i got preggars on a platter of Gold( 2months after marriage). i call it platter of gold cos some women dont get that luxury of early pregnancy. i cried my eyes out, that was the pain i felt. oooh, i just lost a baby.( i know some of you will say, its just a embrayo/feotus whatever it is called, it ends up being a child and its a living thing)
two months after the MC i was ready to be a mother.... huby and i tried, we tried oooooo, one year after the MC still no show... then i realised how merciful God was to have given me a child early after marriage and asked for forgiveness for the way i handled the first pregnancy.
To God be the glory am 4months pregnant now and this one must reach full term, no alcohol, no travelling, infact i stopped woking because it was becoming too stressfull, God wey giv me this one, i go handle am well make e no disappear.
For women believing God for this miracle, i recommend Jackie Mize's Supernatural Child Birth book.

  39. Anon#35 u sound judgemental and dat is so bad for a topic as sensitive as dis. I work in fertility hospital and I will have you know dat a good number of our patients married as virgins n no history of d&c. God forgives the sin of abortion as readily as he wld forgive a liar or a thief. Don't make women feel like dey r paying for past sins.

My sister in law had a miscarriage last month her mums puting pressure on her cos all her other kids have given her grand children, my mum is more understanding probably be cos she had several miscarriages before having me nd a still born after my younger brother. Its very fustrating to see pple u luv hurting and not knowing how to make d pain go away. As in-laws before we put pressure on anyone let's put our selves in their shoes.

  41. Stella I had 2 very painful miscarriages within the space of 10months. The babies came down at 26weeks, the first I thot it was due to stress, the second same thing, at 26weeks, my water broke again on the day of presidential election, nubby rushed me to the hospital , the doctor tried to see if he retain the water but no way, by the third day the water had finished and blood started coming out, then the docytor said he wld av to choose btw I and the baby and he chose me.very painful labour I must say, was induced and I went into labour. Hmmm, baby stayed in incubator for 3wks b4 she eventuially died. I made up my mind about a lot of things, first of all I changed my environment, I moved down to lagos, I drew very very close to Godn cos I didn't understand what wss happenin cos I actually dreamt of the deaths b4 they happened. For a whole year I didn't get pregnant, wen I eventually did , I was scared, very scared, I didn't kno wat to do or tink, but then I met a doctor, dat was ready to hear me talk. I was already spottin b4 I realised I was pregnant. He gave me progesterone for 13weeks and sewed up my cervix cos he discovered cervical incompetence was at work all those while. He made me hand over my car keys to my husband ,n told me he does noyt want to see me any wia on the road, I was on bedrest for 9months ,I didn't even lift a pin. At 36weeks exactly, he brought out the baby.I look at my baby now and I smile cos I have a better understandin of wat I was passing tru! But e biien no funny ooo!!

  43. It's amazing that this topic is being discussed today cos I had a miscarriage just 9 days ago. I was so upset cos I didn't even know I was preggers as I still saw my last period. I did notice a few changes in my body and mentioned to hubby but he said it wasn't possible since my periods are still regular.

I traveled long distance twice in d last month, took alcohol, went for a full body check up that exposed me to radiation and I jogged every morning for 30 minits.... I guess that did it. I just started bleeding profusely at my office and by the time I went to the toilet to check myself, I felt something huge slip out of me and land in the toilet with a splash. I sped down to the hospital, still not knowing what was happening to me. It was while I was explaining what happened to the doc that I stopped mid sentence to ask 'wait a minit, am I having a miscarriage?'

It was while I laid down on my back with legs in stir ups that it dawned on me.... thankfully, I didn't require a D n C. Lord knows that would have killed me...

Now here's the thing. I already have 2 kids and wasn't planning on having any more. Infact 'I was on d coil' but it failed resulting in this pregnancy. But I'm angry and I don't know why. I'm angry at myself, at hubby... he doesn't get why cos we didn't even want a baby. I feel so GUILTY!!!

  44. I lost the first pregnancy i had at 20weeks due to what the doctor called placenta previa.I started spotting when the preggy was 3months.I guess i was stressed.i was placed on bed rest but the bleeding didnt stop.i had the baby at 5months,baby was alive but no effort was made by the Nig hospital to see if he would live,no attempt to place him in an incubator. The day i lost that baby was the saddest day of my life, honestly.
To the glory of God,i had 2 normal pregnancies after the first.I have 2 lovely kids now.

  47. Hi Stella, l am an avid reader of your blog and l must say it's quite enlightening. However, l have never felt the need to comment until now. This is a topic that is quite dear to my heart. As much as l feel the pain of the ladies here, a tiny voice still tells me " at least they have conceived". You see Stella, l have a condition called Endometriosis. It is the most painful and debilitating condition a woman can have. It is when the lining of the womb is found outside the womb. I have huge ovarian cysts and numerous operations but yet haven't conceived . It's really a long story but will tell it another time. Just wanted to say in everything, give thanks. He's my strength and anchor.

  51. The doctor still writing; Pardon people, I did not come to condemn anyone but to enlighten us. When I quoted "Hands that shed innocent blood" (note the plural "hands" "s"), it refers to; you the woman, your friends that suggested abortion, your boyfriend that probably paid for it, the doctors and the nurses that carried it out etc. God said that he hates "those hands" not "the people that did the abortions" God loves everybody and Jesus died for all of us. It is only in repentance that one gets forgiven and saved. I love the testimony of the lady who was careless with her first pregnancy and was drinking alcohol and travelling as she liked until she lost her pregnancy. She waited for one full year and now in her fourth month. she even resigned her job etc. but note one thing . . . she repented of her sins. Let us look at that scripture again;
Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the Lord hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto Him:
17 a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
Boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, is there innocent blood in your hands? Just repent and the Lord will forgive you; he said it that he will not cast away anyone that comes to him.

You might be a "virgin" when you married but your husband had caused several ladies to abort for him, he also needs repentance. If you sought the Lord before you married him, he would have revealed to you the challenges you'd face and the solution as confession and repentance. Thanks.

  56. The doctor's response; Hi beloved, I'm not an "ignorant doctor". Cervical cancer is chiefly caused by Human Papilloma virus (HPV) which is chiefly sexually transmitted. This same virus has been found to cause a reasonable percentage of pharyngeal (throat) cancer due to the prevalence of "oral sex". So kindly look well and see the cause of your "cervical cancer" that warranted the "cone treatment" you mentioned. The point is that as a doctor who believe that IN CHRIST IS HID ALL THE TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE, I know (by the Grace of God) both medical science and "medical mystery" (which is not in the curriculum). The question is; how faithful have you been sexually? (By being faithful, we mean sex with your husband only). If not, is it wrong for someone (doctor or not) to advice you to submit to the Lord Jesus who can make you faithful? I'm not "sanctimonious" either. I was probably worse than any of you in this forum but saved by Grace. If I did not know Christ, I probably would have been pursuing money through abortions clinics etc. Who knows what would have become of me. May the Lord bless you for all the curses you rained on my person. Jesus loves you!
