Ebola,The Dead Doc And The Surviving Diplomat.

I have been thinking about all facts presented about how the Port Harcourt Doctor might have died whilst treating his Ebola virus sick patient who is still allegedly alive.

I am sorry but the story does not make sense to me at all.

How come the Doctor is dead and the diplomat is still alive?Who tested the Diplomat for Ebola Virus?
Who tested the doctor for Ebola virus?

If indeed the diplomat had Ebola with a test result to prove it,why is he not coming forward to give testimony about being saved?

I dont know how to explain it but this Ebola story in Port Harcourt sounds like a conspiracy theory......my two cents!

Yes,so many conspiracy theories flying around these days but I am sticking with my intuition....Something ain't right about this story!

    6. The explanation goes like this.the diplomat was able to survive it cos his body had immunity to the virus but that of the doctor was not able to fight the virus cos his immunity was obviously low.and u know doctors undergo a lot of stress which could pass for reasons why his immunity was too low to fight the virus.if nigeria had good government policies and research personnel, the blood of the ebola survivors can be recreated into an ebola vaccine.

    7. I believe the doctor had a low immune system. Even if he used the same treatment regimen as what he used on his patient, it may not work on him if his white blood cells, responsible for fighting infection is at an all time low. Meanwhile, if the patient had a very good immune system, antibodies are formed asap to fight Ebola. Mind you, viruses cannot be cured! They can only be contained and since he, the patient already has Ebola antibodies, he has to be careful to ensure that his immune system is functional.

As a doctor, over the years, his body must have been in constant battle as he is in first line contact with all sort of unmentionables. Tis why the paltry 5000 naira paid to doctors as occupational hazard fee is ludicrous #sigh

Bv, boost your immune systems, eat plenty fruits, vegetables and drink lots of water. Alternatively, take vitamin supplements especially vitamin C and E

    1. Stella, some people survive Ebola, maybe due to their immune system or stuff like that. People have survived in other West African countries and I believe they are being used for experiments by the WHO as we speak. By the way, not everybody comes out to give testimony! 3. Stella it is possible for a primary contact to be alive while te secondary contact ďies. This is because each person has a different amount of immunity to fight different diseases. So if the secondary contact has a low amount of immunity he or she can die from an infection that a primary contact who has a higher amount of immunity may have survived from.I hope this clear now.Thank me later.JC

    6. People survive Ebola, you know? The fact the diplomat was a primary contact to late Sawyer doesn't translate to a death sentence. I also think since he got prompt medical attention, that helped in curing him of the virus disease. Why didn't he give 'testimony', not everybody likes to be in the spotlight and perhaps he did, we don't know for sure. How did the doctor end up contracting the EVD and dying while the diplomat survived? Ebola has an incubation period of 21 days, within which it would manifest in an infected person. What if he got at the tail end of the diplomat's treatment? If he could still treat the diplomat while infected, it means the EVD was not in its infectious stage yet.

  13. Stella, perhaps immunity cuz that is the only reasonable explanation. If the Doctor could treat another why couldn't he treat himself or tell his wife who is also a media doctor to administer certain drugs on him.

It's most likely the immunity of the individual, maybe Genotype, maybe the doctor was a bit careless, I really don't know. It is just a sad development.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Simple Stella some people have better immunities (Ani bodies) than others. These anti bodies are our natural defence against disease. For those who survived ebola their anti bodies were able to over come and eradicate the virus. With proper medical care body fluids are replaced and certain drugs to boost the body's immunity are given.

Am with u on this Stella cos d story get K leg. ( speaking in Obj's voice) y are they not telling us the name of the hotel, this is conspiracy.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No conspiracy theory.

    1. He won't come out to testify because he was treated secretly.

    2. The diplomat was cured because he sought treatment early and was the 'only' person being treated for Ebola.

    3. The doctor got it because he may have made a mistake by maybe touching where the man touched or touching something that touched where the man touched. Remember the late nurse in Lagos testified that that was how they were infected that the didn't really touch sawyer. He may have touched his phone or pen or lab coat or car with the gloves or clothing he wore to see the diplomat. I'm sure he sat down whilst there. Plus not all gloves or coats are impenetrable by the virus. I'm sure he used those normal gloves. In Lagos Ebola centre they use specialised impenetrable gloves and protective clothing and equipments. He may have even gotten it while discarding or disinfecting the items he used for treatment.

    4. The doctor wasn't treating himself for the disease because he thought he was careful. If he was taking same drugs as the diplomat just as a precautionary measure, mainly because he's using makeshift equipments and hotel room as an isolation ward, he wouldn't have been infected.

Stella I do hope this has enlightened you and your numerous readers. There is no conspiracy other than the greed exhibited by the doctor for agreeing to treat the diplomat secretly. And also the wickedness of the diplomat to lie to authorities. He should be arrested.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Very enlightening. More plausible and medical explanation. I also don't think there's a conspiracy here as alleged.

    2. You said it all dear..Sometimes the gloves are even more deadly cos truth be told,we are humans and you might feel an urge to scratch without even thinking..He would have written with a Pen while wearing the glove and of course might not discard the Pen after removing the glove. The truth is that handling this patient alone was not the best...In a quarantine, you already have the presence of mind that you are walking into an unsafe place unlike the secret hotel visits.

  23. Stella the diplomat escaped from quarantine centre in Lagos after he tested positive and switched off his lines

The dead doctor was aware he (the diplomat) had ebola and tried to treat him cos ebola is not a death sentence depending on the patients immune system

It was confirmed the Doctor had ebola after he died....

So, the primary contact survived because of early treatment he got from the Doc...which wasn't same for the doc...I guess

    Thank you

  24. His immune system is high. His a rich man so am certain he doesn't joke with his vitamins. Well traveled I suppose too. Highly exposed. That's why everybody is advised to take alot of vitamins now. That is the only way to keep ebola away.

    ReplyDelete
  25. SDK, you need to understand that not everybody that gets ebola dies from it. It's ravages the immune system and if strong enough can fight the disease successfully with the required medical attention.
Subsequently, the story you published last week saturday about a doctor that didn't turn himself in....kindda has a correlation with the confirmed port Harcourt story.
It's been confirmed and the doctor's wife has been transferred to Lagos for medical attention.
It's been confirmed and names of the hotel and Diplomat has been released as Oluibukun Koye.

  29. Hi Stella, the disease is very deadly true. And has no cure for now. What doctors do is symptomatic treatment while it runs its course and hope d patient does not die while the virus is multiplying in his system. Also, the patient's immune system tries to build up a response to fight the virus. What this means is, patient has diarrhoea and vomiting, u replace fluids, give antivomitting drugs. He vomits blood, u transfuse while hoping u can keep up with the symptoms while the disease is ravaging his body. But because d virus is so virulent, (overstrong worry am), it usually causes so much damage so fast that the patient's immune system and health workers' treatment cant keep up with it with eventual culmination in death. However, patients immune competence/strength differs such that some are able to fight the disease better than others. This is why even among primary contacts of Sawyer, who might have had contact on the same day, some died earlier than their colleagues. An additional factor in explaining the doctor's death, because he was aware that d diplomat had Ebola, he would have been more aggressive in treating the diplomats symptoms. But because the greedy, selfish and unprofessional man couldn't own up to other doctors that he possibly had ebola, they would be less aggressive with treatment. Thus he succumbed earlier

    2. My dear pls get informed! Ebola virus just like every other viral disease runs its natural course and remits! So you only treat the symptoms and hope the person's natural immune system combats the virus. Remember not everyone infected with HIV comes down with AIDS so is it with EBV.
Also Remember, that was the case with justina(late nurse) fiance...he didn't come down with the disease even after helping the lady while she was acutely ill.
It all boils down to the immune system, the doctor didnt have a strong system...
Most doctors don't have strong immunity cos their system is already spent fighting various pathogen they encounter in the course of their work.
please read more and stop all this conspiracy theory bs!

  35. The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samson Parker, says the late Dr. Samuel Enemou, who treated Olu Koye, a diplomat with the Economic Community of West African States, was aware that the diplomat was a carrier of the deadly Ebola virus.

The commissioner stated this during a press conference in Port Harcourt on Friday evening.

Parker said, “He had received the late Dr. Patrick Sawyer in Lagos. Upon developing the symptom, confided in a female colleague, called Lilian, who contacted the late Enemuo. It was after contact was established with Dr. Enemuo that Olu Koye flew to Port Harcourt to see him.

“To conceal his movement, Koye, who had been quarantined among other people for having primary contact with the late Dr. Sawyer, the Liberian-American who transmuted the Ebola virus into Nigeria, sneaked out of the isolation unit where he was being observed and took a flight to Port Harcourt and switched off his phone so that he could not be reached or traced should he answer a call.”

On arrival in Port Harcourt, he said Koye checked into Mandate Gardens, a local hotel in the Rumunokoro area in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The hotel is within the Rumunokoro area where Dr. Enemuo’s private health facility, Sam Steel Clinic is located.

Parker added, “From what we have gathered so far, Dr. Enemuo, knowing that Koye was positive of the Ebola virus took some measures of precaution to protect himself while treating Koye.

“Knowing the enormity of what he was doing, Enemuo upon Koye’s departure for Lagos, poured bleach all over the room that Koye slept in order to sanitise the place.”

He said the deceased, after having developed the symptom, approached a colleague for treatment at Good Heart Hospital along Evo Road in G.R.A.

He said Enemuo did not tell the doctor that was treating him the truth, stressing that he merely told him that he had fever.

Parker said, “He lied. He did not tell the doctor that was treating him his full story. But the doctor, a nice and conscientious professional, suspected that Enemuo was either hiding something or was suffering from a strange ailment because he proved negative to malaria, fever and typhoid fever.

“To be sure of what he was doing, he spoke to other very experienced doctors about the strange case he was handling in his hospital.”

The commissioner said the doctor treating Enemuo even invited some his colleagues to come over to his hospital to study Enemuo’s medical history.

He said because the news of the Ebola virus was all everywhere, those he called were afraid to honour the invitation.

Parker added that none of them showed up at the hospital where Enemuo was being treated, stressing that Enemuo’s condition continued to deteriorate until he died after which body was taken to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

The commissioner also declared that the advent of the dreaded Ebola virus in the state was currently posing a challenge, saying the development was tantamount to a war time situation.

He said the Rivers State governor, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, had pledged to provide funds to enable the state to procure all relevant materials as well as the services of medical experts from Nigeria and abroad to contain the virus.

Parker also said 60 more people who had secondary contacts with Koye were quarantined last night, bringing the total so far to 100.

Majority of doctors r stressed up,don't eat well n right cos of busy schedule. Hence immune system is usually low. A lot of my colleagues have contracted TB from working in HIV clinics .

  48. I know the doctor that treated the dead Port Harcourt doctor and she is currently afraid for her life because he died in their hospital. Its just so sad that people are more willing to jump on the conspiracy theory instead of appreciating the truth. I've never commented but I feel someone needs to know. Why can't our Politicians choose to err on the side of caution can't the rally be postponed. Ask WHO, the owner of the hospital reported to them and is receiving threats from PDP. Stella send your ppl to find out from the hospital and WHO. Thats your duty to the population.

  51. Not everybody's immune system can fight away diseases such as ebola. The diplomat survived as a result of early treatment, precautions, strong immunity and proper treatment (after symptoms) by his doctor. The doctor died because he didn't detect it on time and as a result wasn't treated properly. And also the immune system of the doctor is absolutely different from that of the diplomat. For example when a mosquito transmit malaria not all bitten individuals fall ill, some individual have very strong antibodies to fight it while others need drugs, even some individual die from it if not properly treated. Thats how Ebola works, the only difference is that there isn't a cure yet, its transmitted through bodily fluid and it kills fast. The earlier its detected the better chances of survival.
