Police Reveal New Tactics Robbers Use On ATM Users

The Police on Friday advised members of the public using ATM at various banks to be security conscious as some criminals now disguised as customers queuing to withdraw money.

A statement on the Nigeria Police Force website noted that on July 30, at about 12.10 a.m., a male bank customer went to withdraw money from one of the ATMs at the Central Business District (CBD), Abuja.

It stated that three young men who pretended to have come to withdraw money were also on queue with the plan to attack the man.

“The victim raised an alarm which attracted nearby Police Patrol team to the scene. The hoodlums took to their heels upon sighting the advancing policemen.
“One automatic pistol fell from one of the suspects and was recovered by the police and the victim was safely rescued.

“However, another male victim was unlucky as hoodlums attacked him and snatched the N500,000 cash he withdrew from ATMs on July 28.

“Police responded to his distress call and one of the suspects was arrested. Efforts are on to apprehend other gang members,’’ the statement said.

*Meaning that if you want to use ATM look around you very well before you take out cash and if possible take out as little as possible or go to an ATM that is safe.

  15. Now here goes another tactics robbers use:

    1. They rob you off your atm

    2. They send an old man(part of them or someone that will be paid) to the atm machine

    3. The old man acts all uneducated and then calls on an unsuspecting innocent young lad who wants to use the atm to help him.

Now the security camera captures the "innocent user" while he is making the withdrawal for the "old man"

Thus, when the owner of the atm reports that his/her atm is stolen, and the matter is being investigated, an innocent person is apprehended.

Careful when you approach the atm. Never help someone use 'his/her atm' as it could be a stolen card.
Instead direct them to the bank security men to help them

    1. Thanks for sharing...all I do is tell d person to insert his pin him or herself. By so doing, the person is captured by d camera too in case kasala burst. But I think I will have to stop helping entirely.

    1. Eka,different cards from different banks can give u that...just put in zenith card, withdraw 150k,put in eco card, withdraw same, put in access card, withdraw d same and finally a 4th card for the final 50 and voila! u have ur 500k. All these within 20mins. Some folks actually have accounts in all banks with functional ATM cards especially if their business is d type that require emergency cash withdrawals. The cards come in handy on weekends when banks don't open.

Cash carrying has become a part of our society and I don't know when it will end. The banks can help us by making sure all the POS machines are in order especially in supermarkets, fuel stations etc

  31. One can withdraw as much as 500k from an atm in a day. Just think out of the box, he could be with multiple cards. Nigerians!, try assimilate the message and stop seeking for unnecessary errors.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Really? How do you withdraw N500,000 from ATM when maximum daily withdrawal on accounts is N150k? Except He's using multiple accounts.

  43. I thought it has been increased to N150,000 to withdrawn from ATM. The guy that went at 12.10 am. what was he doing outside. Did he have an emergency for him to go to the bank that late? boys are not smiling.

On thursday after our weekly service, we were waiting outside the bank as we parked close to them. That was around 9 p.m. some boys crossed over and i sensed it. They asked fine girl, my sister shouted at my niece to close the door of the car fast and stay inside. the guys were confused and said why are you afraid and you are a pastor coming out from the church at Adeniran Ogunsanya.

they looked at us and started walking away. I knew it was God that just made them to be confused when my sister shouted.

People be careful.... boys are not smiling at all.

  44. Another tactics I hear the robbers go about with POS and ask you to enter your pin nos and they would even tell you d amount to withdraw. Let us watch and pray. It is well!
