Notorious Kidnapper Evans May Face Death Penalty As Gov Ambode Signs Bill Into Law

Kidnap kingpin, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, may get a life imprisonment or a death penalty sentence.

This is because Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has signed the state kidnapping prohibition bill, 2016 into law.

The law prescribes life imprisonment or death penalty for the offence of kidnapping and forceful extortion in the state.

It applies to kidnappers whose victims die in their custody, and life imprisonment for the act of kidnapping.

The Lagos State House of Assembly passed the bill on January 5.
from dailypost.

*So how do we know if Evans will actually go to jail if he is sentenced?

  2. Stella he probably won't get death penalty for kidnapping as the law came into force after he was arrested. That would be retroactive. He can however he sent to the gallows for murder of that can show some victims died in his hands or if he is charged for armed robbery which carries death penalty by firing squad as at the time he was in rampage. Even attempted murder and human trafficking or slavery charges can attract a longer sentence

  8. Death penalty it is please!

Life imprisonment is not sure in this country, they may sneak him out to a neighbouring country cos I just don't trust these people at all especially now that they are treating him like he has promised them some money from his loots.

    1. You have said it all.

Just like they did with Clifford Orji years back, who is now somewhere outside Africa enjoying his life.

  11. At the end of the day he will be released, I read about someone that kidnapped an old man and the man died in their den, they gave them death penalty, infact on the day of the execution people came to sympathize with his parents, they all believed he was dead, years later he came back and now I heard he is a changed man and even married.

  12. I don't think Evans will escape the full wrath of the law. Unfortunately for him he didn't kidnap broke people. He dealt with the rich and mighty, if they can dole out hundreds of millions to gain their freedom, they can as well throw in a few millions to kill the man if he doesn't get the death penalty

    1. Thank you.Evans didn't deal with just broke people.Their equally rich friends and family wouldn't let this slide just like that.

    2. Na Me Talk am,exactly!

That's the only thing giving me small hope. Cos sometimes, relying on the Courts and especially the Police to do the right thing, one doesnt always get the expected result.

  13. This country is so spoilt that if he is released I won't be surprised, try visiting prisons you would know notorious criminals are treated like kings, the warden there make arrangement with them, when they provide the Sum needed they free them and they sneak into our nearby country, then they come out and say the person is dead, let them bring Evans video when they are killing him then we would know justice has been severed.

  15. Evans kidnap pple both within Lagos & outside Lagos which makes his case a national issue, so what did Nigerian law pass about kidnappers cos I feel that will be his sentence

  16. Laws in Nigeria are not applied retroactively. The law was signed into effect after the fact (of kidnapping) except, of course, if ppl died in the course of his kidnapping them. He can then get death penalty for murder. Personally, I see kidnapping with arms as a form of armed robbery, sha.

  17. They had better make it public... If truly, they wanna kill this man...
They should air it on live program, let the whole world hear cos this seems like their biggest achievement.

  18. The Bill that Stipulates Life Imprisonment for Kidnappers and Death if the victim dies in captivity was signed into law by Ambode on February 01, 2017.

It was not signed yesterday, last week or last month!

  20. I suggest life imprisonment with hard labour.

  21. In Edo state, it's death penalty for kidnappers. No mercy for them because these animals show no mercy for their victims. Evans has to pay for his sins.
