Labour Room Drama 186

Drama with pain

Dear Stella,
Hope good. Let me send my Labour Room Experience cos I think there was no drama, but keep me anonymous.

I went to the labour room alone as my families were far away. I got to the labour room at 9am Sunday morning, what I felt could be described as menstrual cramp at that moment. I lay on the bed for an examination, I was just 1cm dilated and the nurse wanted to be sure if it is false labour before sending me home.

At 11am, the pain has become severe that I started crying , I was placed on drip and given IV pain relief, at 1pm I was given a stronger pain relief and asked to go outside for a walk if there will be dilation, they couldn't send me home because of the severe pain but I wasn't dilated apart from the 1cm . At 6pm they finally concluded that I will stay over because of the pains. I walked from that 1pm till 6pm and got tired .

At 12 midnight, the pains became so much that I started shouting for an epidural as other pain reliefs didn't work anymore, but I was told Epidural can only be administered only if I was about 6cm dilated.

At 1am, the doctor came to give me options to help me dilate, he gave me 3 options with big medical grammar that I can't remember now, he chose one of the methods for me .... two little balloons were inflated and pushed inside me, after an hour I coughed and the two balloons flew out and I quickly called the nurse, when she came and checked I was 6cm dilated and I SCREAMED ..EEPPIIDDURRAL...

So I was given the epidural on my spine, and I was so relieved, at 5am Monday morning, Epidural has stopped working and I didn't move from 6cm... I was given another shot and immediately the pains disappeared, at 10am I told them to raise my bed to a sitting position because they had made me lie down in the night without getting up, when they sat me down immediately my water broke and I got to 10cm .

Then the gynecologist came in for the delivery, I could no longer feel any contraction because of the epidural but the contraction was monitored on a computer as the have fixed so many things on my body for monitoring.

At every contraction I push with all my strength, I pushed for about 20 minutes before they saw the baby's head, immediately they saw the baby's head I was cut ... I saw them cut my 'V' but felt no pain, at the next push after the cut the baby jumped out and was crying , he was immediately cleaned and wrapped while they were sewing me back like a cloth.. Baby arrived at past 10 Monday Morning.

The baby was wrapped and kept on my chest and he kept looking at me like, " So you are my mum" .

I spent extra two hours in the labour room for monitoring while sipping cold water and smiling for " a mission accomplished"

I left the labour room wheeling my baby myself.

That is my story.

*Did you say there was no drama? My dear enough drama.
Congratulations.

  7. Congrats to you. But did you say you took two shots of epidural? So why do some say its not advisable? When my sis went to give birth she asked for it. My mum said as they administered the thing, the baby's heartbeat was lost on the monitor. The nurse tried to keep a straight face and rushed to go call the doctor. Mnwh my mum had said she didn't support it from the start because of what some doctor had said. So when doctor entered, my mother looked at him straight in the eye 'Dr i didn't come all this way, go through all this stress, to leave without my grandchild, so don't even tell me any stories' They were now calming her down and took her out. After sometime they spotted the heartbeat and well our baby came out. But they didn't tell them what happened that they lost the heartbeat for few mins.

    1. An epidural isn't just a shot. They leave an entry point in the spine and keep topping up if necessary.

  8. Its only in d abroad u can drink cold water after giving birth. In Naija ur family won't let DAT happen. From d moment u give birth u will know d meaning of hot n heat eg u drink water for at least 3 months, dey bath u with hot scorching water, u take hot pepper soup with hot water, u sit on hot boiling water etc

    1. One thing I know is that if you have an epidural, there is a higher chance of your labour ending in a CS or having an assisted delivery like the poster. It's not a must but the chances goes up with an epidural
