Mama Tee Series -OCD

OCD is Obsessive Compulsive ‎Disorder.

I had gone digging and I read more about OCD‎ since the day I shared my shoes hoarding story here.I Recall that some bvs said I have a form of OCD. Lols.

Now, the most disturbing definition is the one that says 'OCD is a form ‎of mental illness'. Does it mean I have 'menta'? Hahahaha

I saw many definitions and explanations. #wikipedia defines ‎OCD as ‎a mental disorder where people feel the need to check things repeatedly, perform certain routines(called 'rituals')‎, or have certain thoughts repeatedly (called 'obsessions').

I saw some of the symptoms too which includes frequent and excessive hand washing, counting of things, checking of things repeatedly, etc. They also said 'some may have difficulty throwing things out'

Chai! Mama Tee is done for.

They said it has treatment, should I start planning to go get treatment? I don't think so, mine is not serious, I only find it difficult to throw shoes out, old, worn-out shoes. I arrange them neatly in a corner of my room together with the good ones. Hahahahaha

On a serious note, I recently discovered that I also find it difficult to throw other things out - empty beverage tins and other containers like Jam, honey and Bama jars, soft drinks and bottled water containers, etc, I feel they would be useful in storing some things. Also worn-out clothes, I keep them to use as rags in future. Hahahahahaha

See me see 'menta' oh hehehehehehe.

Since it doesn't generate to full blown madness, no cause for alarm abi? let me start throwing the things away. Lols

There was this woman in my house when I was young. We used paid government water back then which was dispensed through a tap at the back of the house. Boreholes and wells were not common.

Anytime there was water, we all would gather our containers on a queue and fetch. In a few hours everyone would be done fetching water except Mama Timo, this woman would fetch water late into the night, she would fill everything that has holes in her house with water. This included empty pots, deep plates, bottles, etc. Note that anytime there was water again, she would throw out the remaining water in these containers and fetch all over again.

The following day, she would bring out heaps of clothes and sit beside the tap to wash. She would wash and wash, she would wash shoes too including her children's dunlop slippers that they wore around. She would scrub the outsole of these shoes and slippers (the part that touches the ground) she would scrub very well and then give the slippers back to her kids to wear. Hahahahahahahahahaha

Now that I remember Mama Timo, I'm just wondering, was this OCD or something else?

Do you have any OCD story? Let's learn

Mama Tee

*Your own is not OCD abeg, you are lazy and stingy..lol

I arrange things a lot and hate anything to be out of place,i cant stand dirt, wash my hands a lot....

Ha is like I have OCD, I find it difficult to throw out cans, even empty cream containers, empty cartons, so man things, my mind will be tellin to keep them that they might be useful, at the end, the whole house will be littered, then I will now throw them away but my village people will still whisper to me to keep one of each incase it might be useful. This is so funny.

I wash hands a lot too, I don't horde things cos I don't like cluster/clutter, I like my space to breath. My bedroom is like a hotel room.

They call me miss arrangee, in fact if I come your house I will start looking for things that are out of order to place them well.
My own tie wrapper wear gele for head, but I am working on it now. It's not as bad as it used to be, I am learning to overlook somethings, restraint and reining in my over cleaning/arrangee attitude.
I nearly passed out one day from cleaning my already clean house, cos I felt the new cleaner didn't do a good job, thank God my hubby was close by and caught me before I hit the floor. I was placed on bed rest for a few days, after spending a night in the hospital. After that incident I gave myself brain, as the house was still there and didn't catch fire nor did I die from not cleaning it for a few days.

the other spirit will tell me to ignore the voice that I off the light and locked the door.
that spirit will come back and tell me "I ma na mgbe eji ekwu ana eteka , is it not just to go back and confirm "

  23. Mama Tee you are a hoarder and not OCD............. there are different programmes on dstv that you see these hoarders. Some have filled their homes so much with useless items that there is even no space for them to sleep in their own homes. Some the state has to get involved because they are now living in inhabitable homes and are a danger to themselves and neighbors, harboring rats and other pest. If they don't clear out their house, they will loose the house.
You have to take control now and it becomes worse. Throw away the unwearable one's don't even keep it with hope of dashing out. The ones in good condition you can keep for charity, and leave the shoes you still use. A shoe you havnt worn for 5years no use keeping them.
For me, every year I travel, I buy new shoes and clothes. And when I come-back I always do a clear out before arranging new clothes/shoes. Anything I havnt worn in a while, I give them out. I cant just stand a cramped room and cupboard. I like airy light and tidy environment.
I am also very clean, my home you have to remove your shoes before coming in at the door. Wash your hands when you come inside(that is for us).
if I see a grain or any dust or dirt on my floor. Even if its 3am I will sweep that floor. Don't like any form of dirt touching my feet.
I don't think I'm OCD though, I'm just particular about cleanliness of my home.

    4. I count too, but more of objects like sign posts on my route, a particular colouor brand of car per day, on Sundays I chooses a colour or type of cloth or shoe to count (minus all those departments that wear uniform, just random people that wore similar thing).

  28. Mama tee this is not ocd, someone with ocd doesn't hoard things ,instead they throw them out cos they love space and love to clean alot, hoarding things can make the place dusty. People with ocd clean and washing every mins, they clean a seat before sitting on it, they can arrange maggi cube to be orderly let a particular letters or wprds face up, yup funny enuf I did it last month set, thhley easily feel irritated by things and it isn't easy for those who aren't ocd to stay with them. To those who are ocd they derive joy in cleaning.

  30. Mine is that I can never walk around the house , no matter how clean it is barefoot.

I always wash my hands almost every hour.

I hate when someone leaves a room and doesn’t close the door...it annoys me eh. I must go and close that door , even if you will be back in a second, close the door!!

I don’t like to share my toilet, even with my husband. We sleep in a room but use different toilets. I must wash the toilet after each usage.

When I arrange the house you dare not scatter it.

Need I say that I hate noise with passion. Noise keeps me angry and sad for about 30 mins later before I become normal again.

What do I call mine now, OCD or...?

  31. I don't have OCD but I can hardly sleep outside the house but if I do, I must ensure the doors are locked always. I can wake up in the midnight just to check if the doors are locked.

Mine is nothing compared to one dude I know. His own is story for another day. He has a particular spot for his couch and you dare not move it an inch. His cup must be placed in a certain way. He can't focus and enjoy the TV shows if his curtain is rumpled just a bit. He will clean and clean and arrange until he is almost out of breath.

One thing with OCD is that, the person may be obsessed with neatness yet he can go ahead and sleep with ladies without protection...it makes no sense.

Its all fun and games until you marry such men then you will understand.

  34. For me I arrange things accordingly, e.g: inside the fridge there is a particular way the eggs must be arranged, the small side must be up or down, no mixture. My cutleries are arranged in a particular way. My cooker is always cleaned all the time, my bed must not be rumpled not even small. The curtains must be opened the exact way like the other. I don't walk barefoot in the house and my husband likes scattering the whole house after cleaning, well I will reclean again. I count my clips for clothing , Aldo I count my cloth when spreading it and there is a particular way they must be spread, trousers must be on same side and the edges must be on same side too. The throway pillows are arranged exact way. The slice bread in the house are always taken with care and I mist not see it littered on the floor.there is a particular way the plates are arranged on the rack.I arranged food in sizes in the freezer. They mustn't be scattered. You mustn't put your leg on my chair. There is a lot of list jare. And my husband and son are the opposite of me, when they are done I can be crying and cleaning, so far it is cleaning. I hate noise with passion but hubby and son loves loud music or TV. The list is endless ooo
