Chiadikobi Ezeibekwe, a mathematics teacher at a secondary school in Anambra State, shock his community and the country at large after marrying his 17-year-old biological sister, Chibuzor Ezeibekwe and saying God had instructed him to do it...
The marriage was so heavily criticized by the villagers and also the traditional rulers that he renounced what he had done and the ''couple'' uncoupled and underwent spiritual cleansing..
The event was held on Saturday, March 24th and the entire family of Lewis Ezeibekwe, went through spiritual cleansing conducted by the Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ekwulobia, Rev. Fr. Ignatius Onwuatuegwu.
I keep running this story and scenario through my head and i cannot make out if they should be undergoing cleansing or taken to a mental home...WTF
I am sure this will haunt them forever in that part of Nigeria and become an issue when they want to Marry other peoples children...
The catholic priest even wore Red chasuble for their cleansing..

The red chasuble has nothing to be worry about though white could have been better signifying cleanliness. The question should be how serious will be take the cleansing exercise? Will they still be favorites with people around them? Will they stigmatize for their actions and all that.

Stella you mean they need counselling by a psychologist or psychiatrist. They are still human you know and they seem willing to right their wrong. Remember that they had the support of key family members and their perculiar religious beliefs.

ReplyDeleteAgree with you Stella, I think what they need the most is counceling and mental rehabilitation. I bet you, no one will want to get married to that family even with the cleansing stuff or have anything to do with them. Even with Christianity in Nigeria, some persons don't marry a particular set of people they referred as "OSU".(outcast) then how much more this one with a public stigma of incest.

ReplyDeleteThis type of thing has happened in my home town where a father impreganated his daughter saying that he cannot bring up his daughter for another man from no where to come and marry her. He was banished after the incident.
