And for that rare feat, the BBC is celebrating him as Nigeria’s ‘most dedicated police officer. He tells the broadcast service in an interview that he was surprised receiving the award because he did not know he was being watched.
He said, "I thank God that it’s recognised and I feel like putting my best more and more. A copy of the letter (from the BBC) was delivered to my office for my information, when I read through it, I was wondering could it be true? I read through the letter and I saw that it said, they wanted an institution where they can name and shame those that are not doing well and encourage the people that are doing well within the Nigerian police force, I felt so great.”
Asked if he has ever been offered money in the form of bribe, he said: “Absolutely. And even today a person offered to give me some money and I said ‘no,no,no,no why would you do that, I’m just doing my work’.”
He, however, admitted he has been tempted to take bribes. "There’s no way one would not once in a while be tempted,” he said, adding: “But I just want to do what is right.”
He also has a word for police officers — and others — who bribe is also a source of living for. “I know in my little space where I work, I’ve seen people who are going the wrong way. We’ve talked to them and told them you don’t have to do this and God will find a way to bless you when you’re doing what is right''

DeleteDoes such a man exist in that country called Nigeria?
ReplyDeleteWhat they did not tell us is how they arrived at this inference; how?
ReplyDeleteDid they set "traps" for him?
Well it is a shame that foreigners are the ones "recognizing/rewarding"
Na wa.the worst is that Nigerians did not even believe him
DeleteBetter than rewarding a man millions for f*cking on national TV.
ReplyDeleteE just dey pain you. Go and work. Is it easy to f**k on national tv?
DeleteIn this country?😁😁😁
ReplyDeleteIt is possible. There are descent, disciplined Police Officers.
ReplyDeleteOnly problem is they DO NOT GET PROMOTED often.
They don't confirm to the NORMS.
#nonconformist
Habaaaa its decent...not descent
DeleteHahahahaha. Thanks.
DeleteNa autocorrect o.
Maybe the man is a descendant of Bribe family.
Conform not confirm. Don't say it is auto correct sis
DeleteShe wrote #nonconformist. It is auto correct.
DeleteSo there are still some few police men in this Nigeria my country?
ReplyDelete#honest
ReplyDeleteGood for him. Dunno why I just don't trust these guys. Is it because of the uniform?
ReplyDeleteThat Policeman is not yet born...
ReplyDeleteIn this Nigeria? I am just reading comments
ReplyDeleteAnd this is supposed to be celebrated.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he's from a comfortable background. His father or so may be high up in the force.
He's probably also educated. He will also have a side hustle.
When are they going to dishonor the bribe collecting ones? I can get a photo collage
ReplyDeleteThey don't need to go far to get those ones. Just enter road, they will find you.
DeleteI believe him. There is a very small group of people like him in most agencies in Nigeria. Not every police man takes bribe.
ReplyDeleteNigeria is just a very complex country where corruption thrives so much. Go to the Airports and see how they bother people arriving. They will search your luggage and turn everything inside out. When about leaving, they will tell you that, you cannot take food items because they want you to grease their palms. It Is just hard to comprehend. Nor be only Olopa oo!!
