According to the international coordinator/convener of the group Apostle Gregory Azemobor, the initiative became imperative against the backdrop that Nigeria has earned the infamous status of being the country with the highest number of persons living in poverty all over the world as declared by the world financial body – World Bank. The report says about 86 million Nigerians are extremely poor-they live below the poverty line. This is an obvious humanitarian crisis that requires an urgent attention from all and sundry
"It has become crystal clear that all hands need to be on deck to alleviate the sufferings of the poorest of the poor, hence, the initiative" Azemobor said.
Speaking furthermore, he said that the organization has budgeted twenty million naira (N20, 000,000) for the pilot phase of the project to support widows living within Lagos and Ogun State axis. The idea is that, if a widow is been supported in boosting her petty business, automatically the widow and her children will be elevated out of poverty.
Azemobor also said the initiative is in line with the vision and mission of the organization which is to propagate love amongst humanity. "As an organization we don't have all the resources to care for all those who are in need, but we sincerely hope that, what we do will inspire the Government of Nigeria (both State and Federal inclusive), cooperate organizations, companies and religious bodies to place priority on the welfare and well-being of the less privileged in our society, When we care for the poor through a robust social welfare scheme as practice in saner climes, the rate will abate".
"To that effect we are using this medium to appeal to individuals, churches, cooperate organizations, companies, industries and government to please reach out to all those living in poverty around them, especially hapless widows. And as you do so, be rest assured of your blessings in heaven".
"We also want to encourage corporate organizations, with special interest in women empowerment and poverty alleviation to partner with us to enable us lifts as many widows as possible out of poverty".
The empowerment project is in ongoing as many widows and their families have already benefited from the largesse. The group targets to empower one thousand (1000) widows before December, 2018.
Also note that, the Voice of Divine Truth Int’l Outreach also envisioned building a charity city that would have a kitchen to attend to the needs of two hundred thousand underprivileged people every day by feeding them, the Voice of Divine Truth Int’l Outreach also aspires to build free one hundred thousand housing unit for the poor, free university, primary and secondary schools for indigent kids and youth, a massive warehouse that will provide free food and clothing items for the needy on a daily basis, a state of the art hospital that will provide free medical services for the poor, a rehabilitation center that will provide free rehabilitation, training and skills empowerment for drug addicts, ex-convicts, prostitutes, street kids and many more, an empowerment training center for widows, poor families and unemployed youth.
