President Buhari Says 2019 Elections Will Gulp N242.4 Billion

Nigeria’s President Buhari, on Tuesday told the National Assembly that the 2019 elections will cost N242.4 billion.

The President disclosed this in a letter to the Senate on Tuesday which was read on the floor during plenary. According to Buhari, implementing a budget of N9.12 trillion for 2018 would be extremely challenging and therefore did not consider it expedient to increase the 2018 budget to accommodate the funds needed for the 2019 General Elections.

The president asked the National Assembly to transfer the funds appropriated for the new projects which were inserted in the 2018 budget to cover the sum of N228.8 billion for the elections.

    1. I have been wanting to write you Stella
The girl that works in my shop came in yesterday after a visit from her aunty who works in a government office and said her aunty asked for her passport to register her under a particular program so she can get 5million naira from the government
When we questioned the aunty further, she said it’s for election, they are looking for how to bribe people to convert their votes.
They fill in forms with their details and passport who knows if they will use it to print more pvcs
Buhari is doing everything to win and we have to pray, cus it’s only by the Grace of God someone else will win, GoodLuck let him have it why does he want to rig it

  4. I predict there will be no election in 2019. Military will take over, suspend the contitution, come up with a more sustainable constitution after removing immunity, NASS wastage, etc then they will return government to civilians. Zimbabwe is doing this with consent of the western wolrd so we can do it here also. If we do not change the constitution now Nigeria will be done with democracy in 15 years - it is too expensive and wasteful. How do you spend N243b on one election and hope to progress as a Country.

  7. This amount right here will ungrade our crumbling hospitals. How on earth did he arrive at this figure? Payment and mobilization of INEC officials cannot be this costly. I hope for our sanity that they are purchasing voting materials like computers and counting machines.

  19. God should help us so Buhari will come back for second term. Stella you are very foolish. So you know the cost of printing ballot papers and logistics for gubernatorial, presidential and national/State house of assemblies election as well as putting security in place for the elections. You will just come out and type nonsense all because you are blinded by your hatred for Buhari. God will judge all of you that know that PDP ruined this country and yet you are supporting them. The few of us who still have brains and want a better future for our kids are in support of Buhari. Obasanjo is embittered cos they stopped paying salaries of staff working in his Otta farm, Ty danjuma is not getting his oil bloc license renewed. Staff verification is being done for federal civil service n ghost workers are being eliminated. Budget is focusing on investing in pple by building capacity if staff rather than the partying and irrelevances of the past. I know you won’t post this comment but let posterity judge you

  22. Security for Harry and Megan’s wedding was put at over 40 million pounds that’s almost 30 billion naira for just a royal wedding. Logistics and security can be very expensive.. Democracy is expensive. And to think that this has to be done every 4 years! At least royal weddings are a once in a lifetime event.
