We are talking about naming ceremony and how important the olden days people cherish the use of honey, water, kolanut and bitter kola. But due to religion, most homes don't practice them anymore.

  15. LOL I tried so hard to read some of the Yoruba. Thank you so much Olori Orente! This brought back lovely memories. I remember those days when naming ceremonies were conducted like this. Eku, Eja, Omi Adun and they will put these things in the baby's mouth also. I use to love to eat the left over as a child, especially Adun; Aye wa adun kale...Amin. Some families also have specific "oro" that they do eg: my family puts a knife in the baby's hand to make the baby a warrior.

    1. Noma Ella, this brought good memories. Na my late mum I remember now with the "omo karo ojire".
I had to start speaking Yoruba to my children when I saw a 7yr old boy speak Yoruba so much and I asked his mum if he goes to Nigeria on holiday and she said he's never been to Nigeria "say what"? 😎 πŸ™„.
I have tried in the past but now I have decided to try harder. My only disadvantage is my husband is Yoruba but understands but can't speak and my children's Minder na Oyinbo, So after school they are with her till I pick them up in the evening but na Yoruba I dey speak now for house with sign language to interpret it to them. God help me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚, its so funny but my children are loving it.
